Job Title: Observability Engineer – Network & Visibility

Location: Mclean, VA or Plano, TX (On-site, Full-Time, M-F)

Assignment Type: Contract Only | Scheduled End: 07/17/2026 (No plans to extend)

Overview

Client is seeking a skilled Observability Engineer to support network observability and visibility transformation initiatives. This role focuses on implementing and optimizing a multi-tiered observability strategy, integrating telemetry and analytics tools, and improving operational maturity across environments.

The engineer will work hands-on with key platforms to enhance diagnostics, visibility, and digital experience monitoring, while collaborating closely with internal teams to ensure adoption and operational success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Integrate data and telemetry from NetIM, Splunk, ELK, NetFlow, ThousandEyes, NetBrain, and other platforms into the enterprise observability ecosystem.
  • Build and maintain unified dashboards and visualizations for operational, engineering, and business stakeholders.
  • Support automated diagnostics, alerting, and reporting to improve incident response.
  • Assist in tool modernization: rationalization, consolidation, and replacement of legacy monitoring platforms.
  • Provide network analytics, packet capture, and traffic visibility using ExtraHop, Gigamon, and comparable tools.
  • Contribute to digital experience and performance monitoring across cloud, applications, and edge environments.
  • Support log aggregation, parsing, and analytics using Splunk and ELK stack technologies.
  • Develop automated network mapping and topology-driven diagnostics using NetBrain.
  • Ensure compliance, data integrity, and platform governance standards are met.
  • Contribute to knowledge transfer, documentation, operational playbooks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support performance baselining and predictive analytics to enhance operational visibility and service assurance.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with NetBrain and ThousandEyes.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux environments and ability to run, debug, and optimize applications.
  • Experience with network telemetry, observability, and monitoring platforms.
  • Strong communication skills, team player, curious, and willing to “get hands dirty.”
  • Background in network analytics, packet capture, and large-scale cluster environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ELK, ExtraHop, Gigamon, NetIM, Splunk, and NetFlow.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, Spark data processing, or ELK certification.
  • Strong data analysis skills and observability-related performance monitoring.
