SUMMARY:
Litigation Associate position with a well-established defense firm in Coral Gables, FL focused on medical malpractice defense litigation. The firm represents hospitals, physicians, and other healthcare providers in complex civil litigation matters. This is a full-cycle litigation role offering hands-on exposure to depositions, motion practice, hearings, mediations, and trial preparation within a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Ideal candidates will have 4-7 years of defense medical malpractice experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Handle medical malpractice defense litigation matters from inception through resolution
- Represent hospitals, physicians, and healthcare providers in civil litigation
- Conduct legal research and draft motions, pleadings, and other litigation documents
- Take and defend depositions of fact witnesses, expert witnesses, and parties
- Manage written discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery requests
- Attend court hearings, mediations, and settlement conferences
- Assist with trial preparation and participate in trials as needed
- Communicate with clients, insurance carriers, expert witnesses, and opposing counsel
- Develop litigation strategy in coordination with senior attorneys and partners
QUALIFICATIONS
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active membership in the Florida Bar (required)
- 4-7 years of experience in defense medical malpractice litigation (preferred/ideal range)
- Prior experience representing healthcare providers, hospitals, or physicians strongly preferred
- Strong experience with depositions (taking and defending)
- Proficiency in drafting motions, pleadings, and legal memoranda
- Strong understanding of civil litigation procedures, hearings, and mediation practices
- Excellent legal research, analytical, and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple active cases and deadlines effectively
- Strong collaboration skills within a team-based litigation environment
COMPENSATION & ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- Salary range: $135,000 - $170,000, commensurate with experience
