National Athletic Training Association (NATA) Certificate
New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners Athletic Trainer License
Current CPR certification
New Jersey Department of Education issued Athletic Trainer Certificate
Valid driver's license required
Member in good standing with the NATA, the local NATA District and New Jersey Athletic Trainers Association
Two years successful experience as an athletic trainer or in a similar capacity preferred
Possess basic technological skills as required by the position
Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both orally and through written expression
Must complete required health examination(s) and immunization(s)
Must pass required criminal history background check
Provide proof of U. S. citizenship or legal resident status

Responsible for the safety and well-being of students

Administers first aid/CPR when necessary and/or arranges for medical care
Works closely with all coaches with respect to conditioning, first aid, reconditioning after injuries, and providing for the well being of all athletes in the program
Applies protective or injury preventive devices (strapping, bandaging, braces, etc.)
Counsels and advises athletes and coaches on matters pertaining to conditioning and training, such as diet, rest and rehabilitation
Advises coaches when an athlete may return to his/her activity and to what level
Works cooperatively with and under the direction of the physician with regard to:
Treatment of athletic injuries
Reconditioning procedures
Operation of therapeutic devices and equipment
Fitting of braces, guards and other devices
Referrals to the physician
Works cooperatively with the school nurse regarding the filing of accident reports, doctors notes, and insurance forms
Maintains accident reports and records of injuries
Supervises the athletic training room including:
Establishing rules, regulations and procedures in the training room
Keeping the room in an orderly and sanitary state
Establishes daily hours of operation
Submits an annual budget and orders all supplies and equipment necessary in accordance with district procedures
Makes available medical kits for each in-season team and supplies/resupplies items contained in the medical kit as necessary
Attends practice sessions and games (i.e. home athletic contests, varsity football games, selected post-season contests, tournaments and athletic contests, etc. [all required events are at the discretion of the Supervisor of Athletics])
May be requested to travel to out-of-state events
Professional development:
Keeps informed about the latest equipment and information in the field of sports medicine and maintains his/her certificate status
Participates in continuous study and research and attends relevant conferences and workshops to maintain and enhance professional competence in accordance with district guidelines and budget allocations
School and community relations:
Advises parents in relation to the athlete's care and injuries
Serves as a liaison with the school nurse and coaches
Interprets the athletic training program to the administration and staff
Facilitates effective student, staff, and community communications about the athletic training program
Conscientiously performs work with minimum supervision
Organizes responsibilities and workload efficiently; able to multi-task effectively
Is accurate in reporting information and in the maintenance of records
Learns and applies new job skills
Responds appropriately to concerns from the public and staff and assists in providing an answer or remedy
Demonstrates a cooperative attitude with others in all work activities
Willingly accepts assigned duties and performs them within given timelines
Maintains an effective working relationship with the administrative team, staff members, students, and the public
Maintains regular attendance so as to ensure continuity of instruction and/or efficient operation of the school district
