ABOUT THE ROLE

A well-established Hawaiʻi-based nonprofit focused on advocacy and civil rights is hiring a Finance Manager to own the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This is a high-impact role with real ownership. You’ll work closely with leadership, manage full-cycle accounting, lead systems upgrades, and help ensure the organization’s long-term financial health. If you’re a detail-oriented finance professional who wants your work to mean something, this is worth a look.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Support annual budget preparation, deliver monthly budget-to-actual reports to department leaders, and build financial forecasts for organizational planning and board reporting.
  • Serve as the primary audit liaison, coordinate IRS Form 990 and state filings, and maintain all regulatory compliance requirements including DCCA filings, State Charity Registration, and TDI worksheets.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, record payroll journal entries, and reconcile bank and investment accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Lead implementation of expense management tools, payment processing solutions, and automation connecting QuickBooks with payroll (ADP) to streamline reimbursements and reporting.
  • Conduct daily reviews of operating balances, manage inter-account transfers, and communicate material changes in cash position to leadership.
  • Review and approve payroll submissions, coordinate onboarding/offboarding financials.
  • Develop and maintain written financial procedures and internal controls; manage vendor contracts, W-9s, and payment history.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years in accounting or financial management; nonprofit experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of GAAP; experience supporting annual audits and 990 filings
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll coordination
  • Strong attention to detail, able to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Self-motivated with a collaborative, accountable work style

NICE TO HAVE

  • CPA license or CPA candidacy
  • Experience with Bill.com, Expensify, Stripe, or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with ADP, TriNet, or other HR/payroll platforms
  • Salesforce or comparable CRM experience
  • Knowledge of Hawaiʻi’s nonprofit regulatory environment (DCCA, State Charity Registration, TDI)
