Responsibilities
Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Perform and lead mechanical engineering design for moderate to complex projects with minimal supervision.
- Conduct site inspections, field surveys, and evaluations of existing conditions to inform design decisions.
- Develop conceptual design alternatives, perform system analysis, and support project planning efforts.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings and contract documents for both discipline-specific and multi-trade projects.
- Prepare outline and final technical specifications in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Develop, verify, and manage cost estimates, quantities, and budgets through all phases of design.
- Support the preparation of RFP/bid packages and procurement documentation.
- Participate in and lead design reviews, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Review work for code compliance and provide technical guidance to internal teams and consultants.
- Coordinate with A/E teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure project alignment and successful delivery.
- Provide construction support, including submittal reviews, RFIs, punch lists, and field issue resolution.
- Oversee construction supervision and inspection activities, ensuring compliance with contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Perform design reviews of third-party documents and ensure technical quality across deliverables.
- Exercise independent engineering judgment on complex technical challenges.
Requirements
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 8+ years of design experience for HVAC systems for a variety of facilities for multi-family, institutional and state agency and municipal projects. Project Management experience is a plus.
- Professional Engineer License (PE) in New York State.
- Familiarity with New York City Engineering design standards, codes, and industry standards of practice relevant to all aspects of Professional Engineering Design.
- Design of Mechanical and Plumbing related projects, including boiler, gas riser, roof tank, underground steam, water distribution system, etc.
- Familiarity and understanding of Contract Documents for Engineering, and administration of same during the Construction Phase.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, communication abilities [for both graphics and writing], and project management experience.
- Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, REVIT, & Microsoft Office capabilities is mandatory; and e-Builder experience is desirable.
- Must posses a Valid Driver’s License.
- Curiosity and interest in continuous learning in AI and comfort experimenting and iterating quickly; uses data to validate ideas and measure impact.
- Commitment to ethical and responsible AI adoption, including privacy-by-design and safe use of tools.
