Finance Manager
Job Description
Small, Entrepreneurial Company Seeks Finance Manager Who Thrives in the Gray
Overview
As our Finance Manager, you will own the financial reporting analysis of the organizationfrom planning and forecasting to cash flow, and strategic decision support. You'll partner directly with the CEO and play a key role in shaping how we operate, grow, and make decisions.
This is the most senior Finance & Accounting role in the organization. Theres no layer above you to hand things off to. This role owns it. If you're seeking a traditional accounting role with clearly defined lanes and establishedprocesses, this isn't it.
We're a growing entrepreneurial company where flexibility, problem-solving, and wearing multiple hats are part of the job. Sometimes you'll be building the process. Sometimes you'll be fixing the process. Sometimes you'll be wondering who built the process in the first place. We need someone who enjoys that challenge. If you need everything polished, predictable, and perfectly staffed, this isn't your role. And if your version of leadership starts with delegation and ends with a status update, this probably isn't your place.
If you like building, improving, and taking ownership, we'd like to connect.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
- Helping leadership understand where we are financially, where we're headed, and whether the latest "great idea" actually makes financial sense
- Overseeing multi-entity accounting, intercompany activity, and consolidations
- Owning financial reporting, including the Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Cash Flow Statement
- Leading month-end and year-end close and making sure the numbers are accurate, timely, and trustworthy
- Building budgets, forecasts, and scenario plans that help us make smarter decisions and avoid expensive surprises
- Managing cash flow, banking relationships, and treasury activities (because growth is a lot more fun when you can afford it)
- Partnering with the Accounting Manager to ensure the accounting function runs smoothly, stays current, and the numbers tell the truth
- Identifying financial risks, opportunities, and trends before they become someone else's emergency
- Establishing internal controls, policies, and processes that scale as we grow
- Coordinating audits, tax activities, insurance requirements, managing lines of credit and other financial compliance responsibilities
- Building better systems and processes so we're not having the same conversation six months from now
Why This Role is Worth It
- You'll work directly with the CEO, not through three layers of meetings about meetings
- Your work won't sit in a report nobody readsit will directly influence decisions, priorities, and growth
- You'll have the opportunity to build, improve, and shape the finance function as we continue to grow
- You'll tackle the kinds of challenges that come with entrepreneurial businesses, multiple entities, and complex financial relationships
- You'll help create the structure that supports growth instead of inheriting a system that's been untouched since 2007
- You'll be surrounded by people who solve problems, take ownership, and spend more time finding solutions than explaining why something can't be done.
- If you're the type of person who sees ambiguity as an opportunity rather than a problem, you'll probably enjoy it here
What We're Looking For
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, and full-cycle accounting
- Experience working with multiple entities, consolidations, intercompany activity, and the complexities that come with them
- Experience partnering with banks, auditors, accounting firms, insurance providers, and other external business partners
- Comfortable operating as the senior finance leader in a growing entrepreneurial business
- Someone who can move between strategy and execution without getting whiplash
- A builder who sees gaps, creates solutions, and doesn't wait around for someone else to fix it
- Comfortable making decisions and moving forward even when every answer isn't perfectly clear
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to see both details and the bigger picture
- Able to communicate clearly with executives, department leaders, and people who don't speak fluent finance
- Someone who can build a team and develop people without forgetting how to do the work themselves
- Advanced Excel skills required; QuickBooks or ERP experience preferred
What Success Looks Like Here
- The numbers are accurate, timely, and trustednot accompanied by a lengthy explanation
- Leadership has clear financial visibility and confidence in the decisions being made
- Problems are identified early and addressed before they become agenda items
- Processes are improving because of your ownership and initiative, not because someone put it on a project plan
- Growth is supported by better planning, stronger financial discipline, and fewer surprises
- You take initiative, solve problems, and move things forward without waiting for an engraved invitation
