Finance Intern
Newport Mental Health (NMH) is a progressive high-energy organization that uses state of the art person-centered recovery approach to help individuals recover from mental illness and substance use disorders. Our services vary from outreach, specialized program, mental health, school-based therapy, substance use therapy, community-based therapy, and outpatient clinic.
Newport Mental Health, a leading community mental health organization committed to transforming lives and fostering well-being, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Intern to join our Finance Department. As a Finance Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in accounting, bookkeeping, and financial data entry while supporting the daily operations of the Finance team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the financial health of a mission-driven nonprofit organization.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Perform data entry into accounting systems and spreadsheets with a high level of accuracy
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate financial processing
- Maintain and organize financial documents for audit readiness
- Provide support for other basic accounting and administrative tasks as needed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable using accounting software (experience with Blackbaud NXT or similar tools is a plus).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A willingness to learn and contribute in a collaborative team environment.
Other Duties:
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
- Attending trainings and meetings as assigned.
- Adhere to safety policies including participation in fire/disaster drills.
Education and experience:
- Enrolled in a university or college program at junior or senior level in accounting, finance, or a related field.
