About the Role

Reporting to the Managing Director, FGI Risk the Business Development Director will help expand our client base, strengthen referral relationships, and drive new business opportunities. FGI Risk is a full-service trade credit insurance brokerage and risk advisory, servicing enterprises and lending institutions globally. This role is ideal for a commercially minded sales professional with trade credit insurance experience, strong industry relationships, and the ability to manage a consultative sales process from initial outreach through policy placement. They should be comfortable building a pipeline, developing referral relationships, advising clients, and working collaboratively across teams to deliver practical and strategic solutions. This person should bring credibility in the market, strong commercial instincts, and the ability to help grow FGI Risk's presence and client base. This is a remote role based in the Chicago, IL area.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead the end-to-end sales process, from initial discovery and needs analysis through proposal, negotiation, and policy binding
  2. Build an active pipeline of qualified prospects and generate leads from FGI's strategic referral partners
  3. Achieve established sales targets and business development goals, including new business generation, revenue growth, and pipeline development.
  4. Develop and maintain strong relationships with referral sources, clients, prospects, and industry partners.
  5. Train the team in all the sales and portfolio techniques related to credit insurance
  6. Manage the relationship with all the credit insurance carriers
  7. Collaborate with the Finance and Technology teams to create cross-selling opportunities
  8. Represent FGI Risk at industry conferences, trade associations, and client events to build brand visibility and develop referral networks

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required; finance, business, marketing, or communications majors preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant business development, sales, brokerage, or risk advisory experience.
  • Prior experience selling trade credit insurance is required.
  • Strong understanding of trade credit insurance products, carrier relationships, underwriting considerations, and client needs.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships, generate leads, and manage a sales pipeline.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with clients, referral partners, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Motivated by goals and performance metrics, with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to travel for client meetings, industry events, and business development opportunities as needed.
