SUPERVISOR, CRITICAL TRANSPORT (STARSHIP)
The Critical Transport Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of Technicians for Starship and Super Heavy vehicles. The Critical Transport Supervisor is the most influential person on-site to drive progress on an hour-by-hour and day-by-day basis. The Supervisor of the team will take technical direction from the engineering team and turn it into reality by building, retaining, and managing their team effectively; distributing labor resources, prioritizing certain aspects of the build, and setting headcount requirements where necessary. The Supervisor is also a key enabler to a productive, fun, and hard-working culture. For this role specifically, the Supervisor must be an inspiring leader, often working side by side with the Critical Lift team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage a team of critical transport technicians who specialize in heavy transport operations
Review work instructions and make change recommendations when needed
Assess and vet appropriate skillsets as needed
Identify training needs and develop training programs
Provide required data and reporting to support departmental metrics and improvement objectives
Monitor labor hours and overtime, and implement improvement plans and time management with staff
Accomplish production results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job results
Effectively organize, assign and track work/deliverables for the team, ensuring seamless progression through multi-shift work schedules
Initiate and foster a spirit of cooperation within and between departments
Own safety culture, quality and performance of all team members
Maintain tooling and consumable supply inventory
Continuously improve processes and manpower efficiency, utilization and productivity and conduct regular audits.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalency certificate
8+ years of experience in Heavy Transport Operations
5+ years of experience leading Heavy Transport Teams
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience with heavy transport operations, including Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs), Goldhofer, K25, multi-axle trailers, and oversized load movement
Strong knowledge of load securement, rigging, and tie-down standards
Ability to develop, review, and execute detailed transport plans in coordination with engineering teams
Proficiency in heavy equipment operation, inspection, and maintenance
Strong working knowledge of transport signals, communications, and safety protocols
Experience in high-paced, high-reliability environments with rapid role changes and multi-shift coordination
Familiarity with oversized/overweight load permitting, route surveying, and escort coordination
Experience leading teams in aerospace, heavy manufacturing, or large-scale construction/assembly environments
Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, 5S) applied to transport processes
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a valid driver’s license
Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, noise, and varying weather conditions
Must be available to work extended hours, weekends, and rotating shifts (day: 6 AM–6 PM; night: 6 PM–6 AM) as site operational needs dictate; flexibility required
Able to travel for short and extended trips as needed - up to 5% travel
Stand: Up to 6 hours per day
Sit: Up to 6 hours per day
Push/Pull: Up to 75lbs. (unassisted) 15 minutes or less per day
Overhead reach: Up to 6 hours per day
Walk: Up to 6 hours per day
Lift/Carry: Up to ≤ 50 lbs. (unassisted) 15 minutes or less per day
Climb (ladder/stairs): Up to 6 hours per day
Kneel/Crouch: Up to 3 hours per day
Upper body twist: Up to 3 hours per day
Ability to work in temperatures over 80 degrees 6 hours or greater per day
Candidate must be capable of safely working at heights (up to 500ft), in confined spaces, operating heavy equipment and machinery, and performing the physical requirements of the job listed in the job description.
