position descriptioncoordinates and schedules equipment, materials, and personnel for special transportation jobs and activities. leads the work of specialized maintenance and technical workers. work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. work requires extensive contact with private entities. employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

essential duties: assists in scheduling equipment, material and personnel necessary for a project. coordinates with local authorities to develop/implement traffic management plans for special events and incidents including the handling and disposal of hazardous material spills on the highways; responds as required to perform these functions. ensures projects follow established safety guidelines. ensures vehicles are properly equipped and maintained. handles public complaints. inspects road conditions, work-in-progress and work completed by the crews and contractors. performs some administrative duties such as maintaining records on materials, supplies and personnel. trains employees on the use of equipment and procedures. coordinates inventory and distribution of personal protective equipment, monthly safety related inspections, and completes safety incident related reports. performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

minimum qualifications: education: - high school grad or equivalent in general education work experience: - 5 years in roadway maintenance, construction, traffic systems management, or related work (experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent) related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. substitutions for minimum qualifications licenses and certifications: - valid driver's license. this position requires driving a state vehicle. - must have a class "a" commercial driver's license (cdl) with "n" endorsement or obtain one within 120 days of hire. competencies: the texas manual on uniform traffic control devices incident management procedures applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes intelligent transportation and traffic management systems inventory/stock control procedures maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others administrative support practices and procedures to include writing, editing and report writing techniques, recording meeting notes, record keeping and records management using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing physical requirements and working conditions: subject to inside and outside environmental conditions subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour subject to noise subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device medium work: lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs climbing - ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc reaching-extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words conditions of employment: please click this link to read the standard conditions of employment for all positions: standard conditions of employment (txdot) this job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical. must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. this is a safety impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.- please note that the department of transportation's drug and alcohol testing regulation 49 cfr part 40, at 40.151(e) does not authorize "medical marijuana" under a state law to be a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result for an employee in this position. must be able to report for duty within 60 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations. required to work weekends and holidays. required to work hours other than 8 to 5. required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions. required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
