Position Overview: This role involves delivering direct nursing care in alignment with the established policies, procedures, and protocols of our healthcare organization.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Employs medical-surgical nursing standards to enhance the quality of care and life for patients, families, and significant others by systematically assessing the effectiveness of nursing practices.
  • Builds strong relationships and advocates for patients, families, and significant others to create personalized care plans tailored to individual needs.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to formulate and execute care plans, gather assessment data, establish nursing diagnoses, identify expected outcomes, implement interventions, and evaluate results.
  • Creates assessment and management strategies that consider the physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure aspects of human responses to health issues.
  • Demonstrates understanding of how actual or potential illnesses affect each patient's overall status across various dimensions.
  • Exhibits leadership by coordinating with patients, families, significant others, communities, and interdisciplinary team members to assess needs, set goals, plan interventions, provide care, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Engages in effective communication with patients, families, significant others, and healthcare providers to ensure collaborative decision-making that respects cultural sensitivity, ethics, legality, and compassion, while considering available resources.
  • Educates patients, families, and significant others on practices that promote, maintain, and restore health or enhance comfort.
  • Encourages a positive work environment by mentoring and serving as a role model for nursing colleagues and students.
  • Applies evidence-based practices and scientific knowledge in medical-surgical nursing to ensure care is tailored to the patient's age and clinical needs as outlined in the department's Scope of Service.
  • Maintains a state of alertness and safety at all times.
  • May conduct point-of-care testing in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing school or equivalent educational background for licensing.

EXPERIENCE

  • No prior experience necessary.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly communicates verbally to convey information.
  • Constantly stands and walks.
  • Frequently lifts, carries, and pushes/pulls objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Regularly sits, reaches, and engages in data entry.
  • Frequently uses vision for near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances, and to identify colors.
  • Regularly uses smell to detect odors.
  • Frequently listens to receive oral communication and to distinguish body sounds or alarms.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries, and pushes/pulls objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasionally assists in moving patients.
  • Occasionally bends, stoops, kneels, squats, twists, grips, and performs repetitive movements with feet/legs and hands/arms.
  • Occasionally drives.
  • Rarely crawls or runs.
Licenses and Certifications

Required Professional License and/or Certifications

For Illinois:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)

For Missouri:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
  • Or Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State

For Oklahoma:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State
  • Or Registered Nurse (RN) - Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN)

For Wisconsin:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State
  • Or Registered Nurse (RN) - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services
