Mechanical Designer

Role Summary: CAD Designer / Drafter (SolidWorks)

Primary Focus:
Creation and updating of engineering drawings from existing 3D models.

Key Context:

• Not a heavy modeling role — models already exist
• Strong emphasis on drawing production, updates, and accuracy
• Fast-paced, collaborative environment with shifting requirements
• Core Responsibilities
• Drawing & Design Work
• Create 2D drawings from existing 3D models
• Apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) per ANSI Y14.5
• Update drawings based on redlines and engineer feedback
• Ensure technical accuracy and completeness
• Collaboration
• Work closely with:
• • Engineers
  • Senior designers
  • Manufacturing teams
• Handle real-time (“on-the-fly”) drawing updates

⚙️ CAD & Engineering Tasks

• Use SolidWorks for:
• • Parts & assemblies
  • Sheet metal
  • Weldments
  • Routing
• Prepare layouts and detail drawings
• Occasionally perform:
• • Simple design work
  • Component selection (COTS)

Manufacturing Awareness

• Ensure designs are:
• • Manufacturable
  • Maintainable
  • Easy to assemble
• Understand:
• • CNC machining
  • Sheet metal
  • Welding fabrication

Required Qualifications

Experience & Education

• 7–10 years CAD/design experience
• Associate degree (or equivalent experience)

Technical Skills

• Advanced SolidWorks proficiency (required modules):
• • Routing
  • Sheet Metal
  • Weldments
  • PDM
• Knowledge of:
• • ANSI Y14.5 (GD&T)
  • Military drafting standards

Additional Requirements

• US Citizenship (mandatory)
• Ability to obtain security clearance
• Must submit sample drawings
