Neuro-Ophthalmology, Neuro-Ophthalmologist - Academic Faculty Position
Job Description
The Department of Ophthalmology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, part of Advocate Healthone of the largest non-profit health systems in the United Statesis seeking a Neuro-Ophthalmologist to join our full-time academic faculty at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. This position supports the departments mission of delivering exceptional patient care while advancing education, collaboration, and innovation within a growing academic health system.
Position Highlights- Provide specialized care for patients with complex visual disorders related to neurologic disease, including brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, stroke, and other disorders of the nervous system
- Evaluate patients with unexplained vision loss, diplopia, visual field defects, and headaches
- Collaborate closely with neurosurgery, neurology, otolaryngology, and other subspecialists across the institution
- Serve as a consultant to referring physicians and provide direct patient care as part of multidisciplinary treatment teams
- Teach and mentor ophthalmology residents, fellows, and medical students
- Participate in clinical research and scholarly activity in a supportive academic environment
- Full-time academic faculty position in a collegial and collaborative Department of Ophthalmology
- Residency program with four residents per year and fellowships in Cornea & External Disease, Retina-Vitreous Disease, Glaucoma, Pediatric Ophthalmology, and Oculoplastics
- Strong infrastructure and administrative support, including ophthalmic technicians and academic resources
- Continued program growth with a new free-standing Eye Institute opening in 2026, enhancing clinical care, education, and research
- Serves as the academic core of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist within Advocate Health
Faculty are actively engaged in graduate and postgraduate medical education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and clinical research. The department has a strong tradition of innovation, with access to clinical trials and advanced diagnostic tools commonly available at large academic medical centers.
Qualifications- Medical Degree (MD or DO)
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited Ophthalmology or Neurology Residency
- Fellowship training in Neuro-Ophthalmology
- Board certification or board eligibility in Ophthalmology
- Eligibility for medical licensure in North Carolina
- Strong communication skills and a patient-centered, team-based approach to care
