Air Reserve Technician

The primary purpose of this position is: as an Air Reserve Technician (ART), to serve as a work leader for an aircrew of flight services technicians when in-flight, and as such, to manage and oversee the employees and planned services. In addition, the incumbent administers, schedules, and conducts flight and ground training to develop, upgrade, and evaluate the skills of flight services technicians; and performs aircrew flight services duties for the safety and comfort of passengers during aircraft operations. This position is responsible for the overall planning, coordinating and management of services during an assigned mission.

DUTIES:

  • Functions as a lead over flight attendants during execution of in-flight missions and as such, as an extension of the Flight Services Technician supervisor. Directs and monitors flight services support, evaluating effectiveness of support as an agent for the ground supervisor and unit commander. Distributes assignments/tasks, monitors activities, reviews work and provides instruction and training to flight services crew members on a range of operating and administrative issues.
  • Develops and provides flight attendant upgrade, continuation and proficiency training/instruction to Reserve aircrew members and ART personnel. As a qualified instructor, develops training plans and provides flying and ground training instruction on procedures, techniques, and situations including but not limited to: emergency lifesaving (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, etc.); crash-landing, ditching and anti-hijacking; emergency evacuations and egress; use of operational directives (i.e., DoD, FAA, etc); menu and food preparation and planning; cost projections for mission(s); communications security; inspection requirements; housekeeping provisions, etc.
  • Conducts preflight mission planning/coordination. Determines mission requirements including costs by contacting the staff member representing the traveling parties as well as reviewing available documentation to identify the number and types of meals, special dietary needs or preferences, required customs or immigration documentation, special equipment needs (cameras, secure communications, etc.), desired comfort or entertainment items, and other related areas.
  • Accomplishes preflight preparations and inspections. Purchases required foodstuffs and supplies to serve meals and beverages. Prepares, cooks, portions, and packages foods for meals. Ensures rotation of food inventories maintained in flight-line kitchen to prevent spoilage and stores food items in accordance with inventory and sanitation requirements.
  • Provides for passenger safety and comfort during aircraft operations and performs limited aspects of communications systems operation. Prepares and checks forms, records and receipts and performs other administrative work in support of the organization. Maintain effective communications and work relationships.
