The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Southcoast Region Highways and Aviation/M&O, is looking for an Equipment Operator, Journey 1/2/3 Lead (flex position) in King Salmon to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

SALARY INFORMATION: Equipment Operator Journey 1: $31.62 / hourly - OT Eligible Equipment Operator Journey 2: $33.44 / hourly - OT Eligible Equipment Operator Lead/Journey 3: $35.53 / hourly - OT Eligible

What you will be doing:

  • Equipment Operator Journey 1: Performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Complies with all applicable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of Highways and airports. This position will utilize various types of light duty equipment to perform maintenance activities in support of State of Alaska mission and maintenance of infrastructure. Use of heavy equipment will be in a training capacity.
  • Equipment Operator Journey 2: Performs airport and highway maintenance at the State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Complies with all applicable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of highways and airports.
  • Equipment Operator Lead/Journey 3: Performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Complies with all applicable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of highways and airports.

The Working Environment You Can Expect: This position follows a two-weeks-on / two-weeks-off (2/2) rotational schedule to support continuous operations at the airport. While the Foreman is on their two weeks off, a designated Equipment Operator will serve as the Lead to maintain oversight of daily activities, ensure operational continuity, and provide on-site leadership. This structure ensures consistent coverage and supports critical airport functions throughout the rotation cycle. This position is located in King Salmon. This position with the King Salmon Maintenance Station crew is located in King Salmon, Alaska. The crew operates and maintains our airport and highways in all conditions, year around. Whether plowing snow in near "white-out" conditions; repairing asphalt; maintaining airfield lighting and signs; or training for any emergency that may occur. Our ideal candidate will thrive in the variety of tasks and the teamwork that this busy environment offers.

Opportunity exists to travel to other stations, possibly for extended periods, during the summer months to complete projects.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED

This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383), to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties, and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.

  • Equipment Operatory Journey 1 Hire approval is conditional in that the proposed appointee successfully obtains a Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire and signs an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
  • Equipment Operator Journey 2 A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire. A conditional hire approval can only be given for endorsements. This means that the proposed appointee must successfully obtain an N-Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
