Transportation Supervisor

Position Summary

This position is responsible for daily staff supervision including safety and training of all milk haulers. This includes both safety and DOT training as well as regular employee development and performance management. Must exhibit continuous support of safe driving practices that meet supplier/customer expectations and support the overall achievement of the company's vision, mission and values.

Essential Functions

• Supervise, coach and train all haulers.
• Implement, track and recommend continuous improvements in the areas of department safety and training which align with company vision, mission and values.
• Administer new driver training and development.
• Manage DOT and CSA compliance as well as other applicable agency regulations and requirements.
• Responsible for the management of departmental safety program.
• Ensure proper and adequate staffing to meet department needs.
• Manage electronic onboard devices in Valley Queen fleet.
• Assist in fleet replacement and acquisition.
• Manage all department parts and supplies inventory.
• Perform ride-along reviews and conduct performance reviews with direct reports.
• Assign milk patrons to established driver routes in a manner that encourages efficient transportation of milk from the farm to the plant.
• Schedule the pickup and receiving of internal and external milk loads and other liquid products.
• Responsible for administering fleet maintenance program and equipment preventative maintenance.
• Understand and adhere to all food safety, GMPs, and OSHA policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibility This position is responsible for the performance management of the haulers and assists in the hiring of employees within that department.

Work Environment This position is mainly in an office/intake environment. Occasionally will need to fill in and work would be performed in outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, and days of work are on an alternating repeating schedule. Hours of work are from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. for the night shift. This position will work alternating weekends. Additional hours are necessary for meetings, training and during storms.

Travel Occasional travel expected for this position.

Required Education, Experience & Certifications High school diploma or GED is required for this position. Must possess and maintain valid CDL with Tanker Endorsement, valid health certificate, and SD/MN Bulk Haulers License. Ability to complete Appendix N certification. Proficiency in basic computer skills.

Preferred Education, Experience & Certifications Desire five or more years of hauling experience. More specifically, experience hauling milk or liquid is preferred. Prior supervisory experience is desired. Bilingual in English/Spanish.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications Minimum age requirement is 25.
