Psychiatrist - General Adult + Faculty Position

Location: Hagerstown, MD

Compensation: $350,000 Salary + $50,000 Sign-On Bonus + Up to $50,000 Relocation Assistance

Clinical Practice Overview

This position encompasses a diverse psychiatry practice across various care environments:

  • Inpatient & Acute Services:
    • 12-bed Adult Acute Psychiatry Unit (both voluntary and involuntary)
    • 6-bed Crisis Stabilization Unit for substance use withdrawal and stabilization
    • Consult-Liaison Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine consultations
    • Psychiatric ED consult service supported by dedicated behavioral health social workers
  • Outpatient Services:
    • Behavioral Health Urgent Care
    • Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)
    • Therapy services provided by 10 full-time licensed mental health clinicians
    • Telehealth psychiatry options
Patient Population

Provide care for adults experiencing a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including:

  • Major Depressive Disorder
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Schizophrenia-spectrum disorders
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Substance Use Disorders
  • Functional Neurologic Disorders

Typical responsibilities include managing suicidal ideation, psychosis, mania, substance withdrawal, capacity evaluations, and medication/psychotherapy management.

Typical Clinical Volume
  • Inpatient: 6-12 patients daily
  • Consult-Liaison: 4-6 patients daily
  • Addiction Consults: 3-4 patients daily
  • Crisis Stabilization Unit: Approximately 3 patients daily
  • Outpatient: 1-hour new visits, 15-30 minute follow-ups
Academic & Faculty Role

Become part of a developing academic psychiatry department featuring:

  • 8 psychiatrists and 2 nurse practitioners
  • 5 psychiatry residents per class
  • Clinical supervision of residents and medical students
  • Opportunities for didactics, lectures, advising, research, and committee involvement
  • Faculty members receive protected educational time (0.1 FTE) for teaching duties
Schedule & Call
  • Monday to Friday, 8 AM - 4 PM
  • At-home weekday call (maximum once per week)
  • Weekend call rotation approximately every 6 weeks
  • Resident call coverage expanding starting Summer 2026
Strong Clinical Support
  • 24/7 Emergency Psychiatric Services team available for ED coverage
  • Case management and social work support across inpatient and consult services
  • Dedicated outpatient psychotherapy staff
  • Collaborative team environment with psychiatrists, APPs, and trainees
