Northland Management Services is a restaurant management company operating restaurants in the Quick Service industry. The Director of Accounting is responsible for the management and maintenance of Company accounting functions.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare accounting records, including financial statements and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformity to the standards defined within the department in prescribed intervals (monthly, quarterly, yearly, etc)
  • Prepare initial year-end financial report and coordinate final results with public accounting firm
  • Participate and coordinate internal/external audits schedule and requirements.
  • Monitor and analyze monthly overhead expenditures to justify and/or correct budget variances.
  • Verify day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, cash receipts, cash disbursements, cash reporting and planning, and accounting for all financial transactions and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Works with senior leadership on appropriate fiscal strategies for the organization.
  • Develops systems for the maintenance of financial records, making use of current technologies.
  • Prepares ad-hoc reports as needed.
  • Reports sales tax to meet all requirements.
  • Completes reconciliations of records.
  • Completion of timely month-end journal entries and bank reconciliations in prescribed intervals (monthly, quarterly, yearly, etc)
  • Daily treasury management
  • Ensure financial and accounting functions, financial controls, and records meet all federal, state, local and company regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, plus five (5) or more years of accounting experience.
  • Ability to successfully multi-task in a deadline based environment
  • Excellent planning, organizing, and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced level of experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Excel, etc.
  • Views the position as providing both internal and external customer services
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Valid Driver’s License and proof of auto insurance

Experience Preferred:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
  • Knowledge of and experience with:
    • Great Plains Software
    • Management Reporter

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • The Director of Accounting has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but collaborates with other departments and employees, as well as external contacts

Physical Demands:

  • This is largely a sedentary role; however filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, opening filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Work is performed in an office environment.
  • Ability to lift 30lbs

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full time salaried position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and must work 40 hours a week.
