Join Our Team of Cardiologists at the VA in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Position Overview

We are looking for skilled staff physicians to become part of our Non-Invasive Cardiology section in Tulsa, OK. The James Mountain Inhofe Veterans Affairs Medical Center (JMIVAMC) invites applications for the role of staff physician specializing in Non-Invasive Cardiology. We are in search of a board-certified physician who is interested in a full-time position within our Cardiology Non-Invasive department at the Eastern Oklahoma VA Medical Center Hospital. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic clinical environment and hold dual board certifications in Cardiology and Internal Medicine. We particularly seek individuals with expertise in Echocardiography, stress testing, Holter monitoring, and event monitoring. This role encompasses both outpatient and inpatient consultations and management, supporting a 58-bed VA hospital in Tulsa, and reports directly to the Chief of Medicine Specialty. This is a non-supervisory position.

Staff physicians may have the chance to engage in teaching due to our collaboration with Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OSUCOM) and the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine (OUCOM). Eligible candidates must possess an MD or DO, a valid medical license, and be board-certified or board-eligible in Cardiology. The ideal applicant will qualify for an academic appointment at OSUCOM and OUCOM, potentially at the assistant, associate, or full professor level, supported by a strong history of clinical and academic achievements. Candidates must also meet the requirements for appointment at the VA. The clinical responsibilities within the Cardiology section cover a wide range of subspecialties and are well-supported by surgery, pathology, radiology, and other members of the Medicine Service.

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday (may require evening or weekend shifts as part of a 24/7 full-time physician role).

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen; non-U.S. citizens may be considered.

  • Possess a current, unrestricted medical license to practice in the U.S.

  • Board Certification in Cardiology and Internal Medicine is preferred, though Board Eligibility may also be acceptable.

Benefits and Compensation

  • Salary range is between $320,000 and $400,000, with the potential for an annual performance bonus of up to $15,000.

  • A sign-on bonus will be provided.

Contract Buyout Program: This position may qualify for the VHA Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP), which allows for the buyout of service contracts (including locum agreements, loan repayments, sign-on bonuses, and contracts from physician-owned practices) in exchange for employment at specific rural or highly rural facilities for a minimum obligated service period of four years.
