Title: Accounting Manager Construction Industry Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting Manage and develop a team of three accounting professionals. Oversee daily accounting activities to ensure accurate, timely, and complete processing of accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger transactions. Review and prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Ensure balance sheet accounts are properly reconciled and presented in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting and general ledger activity. Assist with the preparation and consolidation of budgets, forecasts, and financial planning initiatives. Support process improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls. Maintain and develop standard operating procedures related to accounting and financial reporting functions. Accounts Payable Management Oversee all accounts payable activities, including invoice processing, vendor payments, employee reimbursements, vendor maintenance, and related controls. Ensure proper coding, approvals, documentation, and compliance for invoices, expense reimbursements, and company credit card transactions. Support vendor onboarding and maintenance, including review of tax forms, supporting documentation, and compliance requirements. Payroll Oversight Review weekly payroll processing to ensure accurate and timely employee payments. Oversee payroll accounting entries, accruals, allocations, reconciliations, and related reporting. Collaborate with payroll, HR, operations, and other departments to ensure payroll information is complete, accurate, and appropriately reflected in the financial records. Monitor payroll liabilities, deductions, benefits, tax withholdings, and employer-paid expenses for accuracy. Support compliance with payroll regulations, tax reporting requirements, wage and hour laws, and record retention policies. Banking & Treasury Functions Manage daily banking activities, including ACH processing, ACH returns, positive pay administration, check reconciliation files, stop payments, and exception resolution. Review daily banking reports and account activity. Perform treasury-related responsibilities and banking functions as needed. Audit & Compliance Lead annual financial statement audit activities and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors. Coordinate audit requests, schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation. Assist with year-end close activities, including consolidated trial balances, elimination entries, supporting schedules, and final ERP close procedures. Support contractor licensing, registrations, and compliance activities as required. Assist with administration of the company credit card program. Ensure adherence to internal controls, policies, and accounting best practices. Recruit, train, mentor, and develop accounting staff. Assign, prioritize, and review workloads to ensure deadlines and quality standards are consistently met. Provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities. Lead through influence, accountability, and effective communication while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. ~4–6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities. ~ Experience across multiple accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, financial reporting, and month-end close. ~ Experience supporting external audits and year-end financial reporting processes preferred. ~ Construction, engineering, project-based, or professional services industry experience is a plus. Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and accounting best practices. Ability to calculate and analyze financial data, including percentages, allocations, variances, and other key metrics. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience working within ERP/accounting systems. Experience utilizing project management and business software applications.
