Position Summary
TeamGOV is seeking an experienced Fire & Life Safety Engineer to oversee the inspection, testing, maintenance, and compliance of fire protection and life safety systems supporting a federal courthouse and office complex. The engineer will serve as the subject matter expert for NFPA compliance, fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems, emergency planning, and life safety code requirements while supporting facility operations and capital improvement projects. Federal fire protection engineers commonly review designs for compliance with NFPA, IBC/IFC, and GSA standards; inspect facilities; advise management on hazard mitigation; and oversee life safety systems.
Essential Duties
· Manage the facility Fire & Life Safety Program.
· Conduct periodic fire and life safety inspections.
· Perform compliance reviews using applicable NFPA codes and standards.
· Review construction documents, shop drawings, and equipment submittals.
· Coordinate annual inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) for fire alarm systems, automatic sprinkler systems, fire pumps, standpipe systems, fire extinguishers, clean agent suppression systems, emergency lighting, exit signage, and smoke control systems.
· Develop corrective action plans for identified deficiencies.
· Support Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) inspections.
· Maintain compliance documentation.
· Prepare engineering reports and recommendations.
· Support emergency preparedness planning and evacuation drills.
· Provide technical guidance to maintenance staff and subcontractors.
· Coordinate with GSA, local fire officials, and tenants.
· Assist with capital projects involving fire protection systems.
· Maintain asset records within IBM Maximo (preferred).
Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
· Five (5)+ years of experience supporting commercial or federal facilities.
· Working knowledge of NFPA 1, NFPA 10, NFPA 13, NFPA 20, NFPA 25, NFPA 72, NFPA 80, NFPA 101, the International Building Code (IBC), and the International Fire Code (IFC).
· Experience reviewing construction drawings and specifications.
· Experience with fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
· Strong technical writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· Professional Engineer (PE) license.
· Fire Protection Engineer (FPE).
· NICET Level III or IV.
· Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS).
· Experience supporting GSA, VA, DoD, DOE, or other federal facilities.
· Experience with IBM Maximo CMMS.
· OSHA 30 Certification.
