Role Overview

Steel Partners is seeking a CFO for an operating company in its portfolio.

Responsibilities
  • Build a data driven culture fostering profitable growth and improved decision making.
  • Actively seek out and partner with all levels of the business and increase overall financial acumen.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of Segment financial reporting and forecasting to Steel Partners, providing insight and sound financial analysis for senior management.
  • Identify new profit opportunities within the existing business.
  • Support expansion efforts in existing and new markets; participate in acquisition processes including due diligence, valuation, and post‑acquisition integration.
  • Maintain the financial integrity of the organization with GAAP and adequate financial controls in accordance with Sarbanes‑Oxley.
  • Ensure profitability of the business.
  • Hold full accountability for integrity of Segment operating companies and Segment financial statements.
  • Support Steel Partners to ensure corporate financial policies, procedures and controls are effective; direct due diligence and integration of acquisitions.
  • Effectively manage and develop financial and clerical accounting functions.
  • Proactive partner to sales, operations and other functions in decision making including investments and M&A.
  • Support annual Strategy Deployment Process and general business planning at Segment and OpCo levels.
  • Advise on trends and regulations in financial and manufacturing industries.
  • Drive the Steel Partners Business System throughout Segment Finance using Lean and 80/20 tools.
  • Develop and recommend strategies to improve profitability.
  • Assure compliance with Steel Partners financial policies, procedures, control requirements and reporting systems.
  • Maintain or improve internal reporting and information systems to support management decisions.
  • Provide strong analysis and communication to Steel Partners management on financial matters.
  • Benchmark financial performance, compare vs. plan and advise on effective strategies.
  • Evaluate acquisitions, provide financial valuations, oversee due diligence, prepare material for executive management.
  • Provide routine forecasting to identify and monitor key business drivers and variances.
  • Develop and maintain accurate financial statements, controls, and accounting systems.
  • Work with President, financial, IT and general management to develop and implement reporting and control systems.
  • Build a highly technical and efficient Finance organization, recruit new talent.
  • Effectively manage and support global Finance resources in a matrix organization.
  • Develop Finance teams to meet changing segment and corporate needs.
  • Oversee operations of finance/accounting department, design organizational structure.
  • Develop bench strength and build high‑performance finance teams skilled in lean accounting principles and FP&A.
Qualifications

Education: A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required; MBA preferred. CPA/CMA a plus but not required.

Professional Experience: 15+ years Finance/Controller experience, including 5+ years as finance leader for a stand‑alone operating company or division in a public or private equity company with multiple manufacturing locations, multi‑site at the OpCo/regional level, complex businesses and tax/legal entity structures.

Functional Expertise: Proven command of all aspects of the Finance function – financial planning & analysis, accounting, operational accounting/finance. Lean experience preferred. Hands‑on experience in a stand‑alone operating company or division of a major global company.

Leadership Skills: Superior leadership, influencing, consensus building, collaboration and communication skills, conflict management, executive presence/composure. Strong process orientation and a track record of improving financial function operations and efficiency.

Traits and Competencies: Hands‑on leader with high sense of urgency, high expectations, results orientation, humility, confidence, transparent financial communication. Able to assess businesses from a general manager’s perspective, create followership, troubleshoot technical issues, recruit and develop talent, motivate teams, coach, and communicate effectively at all levels. Knowledge of TPS/Lean tools (VSM, Standard Work, Pull Systems & Kanban, SIOP, Daily Management, 5S/Visual Management, 3P, SMED, TPM, Kaizen, etc.) and Growth tools (VOC, Sales Funnel, Value Pricing, NPI, P&L Management, etc.).
