About the ProgramThe Family Medicine Residency Program is a well-established and academically rigorous training initiative that has a long-standing history of cultivating outstanding physicians. The program accommodates 24 residents (8-8-8) and is hosted at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The Program Director will act as the physician leader of the Family Medicine Residency Program, ensuring adherence to all Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) standards while advancing the program's educational mission and strategic goals. In close collaboration with the Residency Program Manager, the Program Director will oversee:
- The residency curriculum
- Faculty educational initiatives
- Resident development
- Accreditation compliance
- Program operations
This role is structured as follows:
- 0.6 FTE for Administrative Leadership
- 0.1 FTE for Direct Educational Activities/Resident Teaching
- 0.3 FTE for Clinical Practice
Clinical responsibilities may involve outpatient, inpatient, or a combination of Family Medicine practice, primarily based at our Family Medicine facilities in Portland and/or Falmouth.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Family Medicine Residency Program
- Ensure compliance with all ACGME accreditation standards
- Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous enhancement of the curriculum
- Support and supervise faculty in their educational roles
- Foster an inclusive and high-performing learning environment
- Lead resident recruitment, selection, evaluation, and professional growth
- Collaborate with departmental and institutional leaders in graduate medical education
- Engage in teaching, mentorship, and scholarly activities
- Encourage innovation and excellence in Family Medicine education
- Maintain an active clinical practice aligned with residency program leadership duties
- MD or DO degree
- Board Certified in Family Medicine
- Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Maine
- A minimum of three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience meeting ACGME Program Director criteria
- Prior leadership experience in graduate medical education, residency education, or academic medicine
- A demonstrated commitment to Family Medicine education and resident development
