Job Opportunity: Family Medicine Physician - Health Equity for Adolescents

We are excited to announce a full-time position for a Family Medicine Physician specializing in Health Equity for Adolescents within the Legal System (HEAL) at the Administration for Children's Services (ACS). Our organization collaborates with various municipal hospitals and clinics across New York City, providing essential healthcare services through an affiliation agreement.

The HEAL Program represents a new initiative aimed at becoming the primary healthcare provider for youth in city custody. The medical team will deliver 24/7 care across two secure detention facilities, two school-based health centers, and limited pharmacy services at seven non-secure locations (group homes). Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting comprehensive medical and dental screenings, vaccinations, and routine testing.
  • Responding to immediate medical needs and facilitating referrals for offsite care.

Position Details
  • Work Locations: Crossroads Juvenile Center and/or Horizon Juvenile Center.
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, including day, overnight, and weekend shifts.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide medical care to adolescents in ACS custody while prioritizing safety and security.
  • Gather relevant patient histories, assess needs, and establish diagnoses.
  • Create and implement treatment plans based on diagnostic information.
  • Conduct thorough well-care examinations, including physical and gynecological assessments.
  • Prescribe medications and educate patients about their use, obtaining parental or guardian consent when necessary.
  • Complete all required medical documentation and forms related to patient care.
  • Manage referrals to other agencies and providers, ensuring follow-up care.
  • Assist with phlebotomy as needed to maintain patient flow.
  • Administer immunizations as required.
  • Handle medication distribution, refills, and discontinuations.
  • Complete Court Orders and other ACS mandated paperwork.
  • Evaluate and treat ACS employees only in emergency situations.
  • Provide health education on preventive medicine, chronic disease management, parenting, prenatal care, nutrition, family planning, medication usage, and stress management.
Administrative Duties
  • Engage in patient outreach initiatives.
  • Participate in case conferences to discuss patient care.
  • Assist the Medical Director in developing and implementing medical protocols and forms.
  • Contribute to research in healthcare or related fields in collaboration with the Medical Director.
Qualifications
  • Current registration as a Physician in New York State.
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience working with family, pediatric, and adolescent urban populations.
  • Successful completion of all necessary screenings to work in a secure environment with youth.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred but not mandatory.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Annual Base Salary: $217,152* (for board-certified candidates) based on a 40-hour work week.
  • Total Compensation Package: Estimated at $238,867**, including salary, 401(k) contributions, and additional factors.
