Grus Construction Personnel is a well-established construction staffing company with over 35 years of experience providing skilled tradespeople to contractors nationwide. Our corporate office in Tampa is home to a team of approximately 25+ professionals, and we are seeking a Payroll & Accounting Administrator to join our team.
This is not a data entry position. We are looking for someone with strong accounting aptitude, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to identify discrepancies before they become problems. Success in this role requires sound judgment, accuracy, and the confidence to question information that doesn't make sense.
You will be responsible for auditing, reconciling, and accurately processing weekly payroll for more than 100 skilled construction craftsmen working in approximately 48 states. Accuracy is essential, as payroll directly impacts our employees and our clients.
You will be cross-trained in payroll, certified payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other accounting and HR administrative functions, creating opportunities for long-term growth within the company.
Responsibilities
- Process weekly payroll for employees working on projects throughout the United States.
- Audit and reconcile timecards, pay rates, prevailing wage classifications, deductions, and supporting documentation before payroll is finalized.
- Verify payroll calculations, tax withholdings, garnishments, levies, and benefit deductions for accuracy.
- Prepare and review certified payroll reports.
- Research and resolve payroll discrepancies promptly and accurately.
- Maintain detailed records while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
Qualifications
- Three to ten years of payroll, accounting, bookkeeping, or related experience.
- Strong understanding of payroll principles, taxes, deductions, garnishments, and payroll compliance.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy with numbers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to recognize inconsistencies and investigate issues rather than simply processing information as received.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with payroll software is beneficial, but we are more interested in strong accounting skills and the ability to learn than experience with any specific software platform.
We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, values accuracy over speed, and understands that payroll is one of the company's most important responsibilities.
If you enjoy solving problems, working with numbers, and being part of a collaborative team, we'd love to hear from you.
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional accounting and payroll experience will also be considered.
Please submit your resume for consideration.
