Mechanical Construction Estimator

Position Summary

Join a leading Connecticut-based MEP contractor specializing in public commercial construction. Our projects include both new construction and renovations, with contract values ranging from $500,000 to over $30 million. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive estimates while supporting projects from preconstruction through post-award, including change order pricing and cost analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope, identify risks, and develop comprehensive cost estimates.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using QuickPen AutoBid Mechanical Estimating software in a competitive hard bid environment.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor proposals and vendor quotations to ensure complete and competitive pricing.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project teams to verify scope, resolve discrepancies, and ensure estimate accuracy.
• Prepare accurate and timely bid proposals while maintaining estimating databases and documentation.
• Provide pricing, analysis, and support for change orders, scope revisions, value engineering proposals, and project cost impacts throughout construction.
• Identify value engineering opportunities that reduce project costs while maintaining quality and project requirements.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, general contractors, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, negotiations, and project handoff meetings with operations and project management teams.
• Support continuous improvement of estimating processes, historical cost data, and best practices.

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven experience estimating mechanical construction projects ranging from $1 million to $20 million or more.
• Strong background estimating projects in a competitive hard bid environment.
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents, including CAD drawings, specifications, sketches, submittals, and contract documents.
• Experience preparing and pricing change orders, scope revisions, and supplemental estimates is strongly preferred.
• Highly detail-oriented with excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities while working independently.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across project teams.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong working knowledge of QuickPen AutoBid Mechanical Estimating software and estimating databases is required.
