Accounting Technician III

Salary: $54,681.24 - $80,984.02

Performs a variety of specialized record keeping duties associated with processing and analyzing accounting transactions, leadership over multiple functions such as accounts payable and receivables and multiple special funded programs, compilation of fiscal data for special analysis, and preparation of reports leading to reimbursement for services.

Supplemental

This recruitment is being conducted to fill two vacant positions. One position is district funded, and the other position is 100% grant-funded. Placement in either funded position will be determined at the Districts discretion.

The hiring range salary is Step A Step E

Education and Experience

Typically requires completion of two years of college-level curriculum with emphasis in bookkeeping and 3 years of experience in a production accounting environment with at least one-year of general ledger record keeping. Additional experience may substitute for some higher education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintains a complete set of records of financial transactions by overseeing, reviewing, and entering transaction details onto an established customer, project or fund accounting system. Ensures that account summary information equals control account balances.

Verifies accuracy of amounts and postings of transactions. Posts and balances subsidiary ledgers and transfers data to general ledger. Traces transactions to determine discrepancies.

Calculates items such as employee wages, time and material reports, equipment and supply costs, etc. Determines the proper account distribution.

Prepares special statistical and financial reports for Administration requiring skill at researching information from financial data management systems. Reports will include those required to sustain grants and special funds.

Develops estimates for cost-of-service, including labor, material, and overhead, for use in preparing budget proposals to grantors and agencies sponsoring special programs.

Researches and assists with proposals for beneficial categorical programs. Analyzes and develops proposals and methods of enhancing reimbursement for categorical services to state agencies.

Classifies, codes and consolidates charges, rates and related financial information to a automated accounting system.

Ensures that pre-established accounting controls are applied to balance sheets, fund accounts and special accounts according to generally accepted accounting principles.

Orients, trains and organizes work activities for new and lower level employees.

Develops worksheets for consolidated reports and audits.

Prepares trial balance financial reports including the monthly closing of books.

Manipulates data management systems to produce custom, yet recurring reports, requiring a working knowledge of the relationships of financial data.

Performs the duties of Account Technician II and other related duties as required to carry out the objectives of the position.

Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

Requires in-depth knowledge of the principles, practices, terminology, and principles of accounting and bookkeeping. Requires a working knowledge of budget analysis and reporting procedures. Requires in-depth knowledge of the organization of clerical office procedures and methods for an accounting office. Requires well-developed skills in business mathematics and record keeping. Requires working knowledge of, and skill in use of spreadsheet programs and in-depth conceptual and procedural knowledge of the fiscal system. Requires sufficient reading skill to understand accounting information found in regulations and professional journals. Requires sufficient human relations skill to work with multiple departments, convey technical concepts, and achieve harmony with a small work team.

Abilities

Requires demonstrated ability and dexterity to enter data onto standardized formats using computerized data base programs by using keyboards, basic keyboarding or 10-key skills and calculators. Requires the ability to understand and interpret federal and state rules, regulations, and guidelines as they relate to categorical and specially funded programs. Must be able to maintain financial records for multiple programs or for a complete general ledger, as assigned. Requires the ability to analyze program and financial data and prepare budget proposals to support funding awards. Must be able to perform mathematical operations quickly and accurately.
