Behavioral Health Clinician

Under the direction of the Clinical Director, the Behavioral Health Clinician delivers comprehensive, client-centered care to individuals, families, and groups experiencing mental health, emotional, behavioral, or substance use challenges. Managing client engagement from intake through discharge, this role conducts assessments, develops treatment plans, provides evidence-based counseling and crisis intervention, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to promote long-term recovery and wellness.


Key Responsibilities

Direct Clinical Care & Case Management

  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and screenings to evaluate client needs and determine service eligibility.
  • Provide evidence-based individual, family, and group therapy (including grief support, behavioral health, and substance use groups).
  • Formulate, monitor, and update individualized, goal-oriented treatment plans based on ongoing client progress.
  • Deliver rapid crisis intervention, de-escalation, and safety planning services as required.
  • Coordinate care with medical providers, social services, and community partners to support holistic client wellness.


Quality Assurance, Data & Compliance

  • Maintain timely, thorough, and compliant clinical documentation (progress notes, assessments, discharge summaries).
  • Track outcome measures using evidence-based assessment tools.
  • Maintain up-to-date client files in the Penelope case management system.
  • Participate actively in clinical supervision, case conferences, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development.
  • Ensure full adherence to HIPAA regulations, agency policies, professional ethics, and Maryland state laws.


Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Education: Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure: Active Maryland state license required (LMSW or LGPC); independent licensure (LCSW-C or LCPC) preferred.
  • Certifications: Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) is a plus.

Experience & Clinical Expertise

  • 3+ years of clinical experience in behavioral health, therapeutic counseling, and case management.
  • Experience facilitating therapy and support groups (grief, mental health, substance use).
  • Experience serving underserved, high-risk, and overdose-impacted populations utilizing harm reduction approaches.
  • Working knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, treatment planning, and evidence-based therapeutic modalities.
  • Familiarity with local community support systems and external referral networks.
  • Tech-savvy with proficiency in Electronic Health Record (EHR) and case management platforms.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.


Physical & Logistical Requirements

  • Ability to work in both office and field environments, with occasional evening or weekend hours.
  • Valid Maryland driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.


Compensation: We pay 60% of the Clinician's billed rate.
