Job Title: Registered Pharmacy Technician

Job Description

This role supports pharmacy operations by serving as a primary point of contact for patients, clinicians, and clients, handling inbound and outbound calls related to prescriptions, refills, deliveries, and payment. The Customer Support Representative ensures a high level of service, accurate documentation, and timely coordination of medication distribution while working closely with clinical and operational teams.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary resource for inbound telephone calls to minimize workflow interruptions caused by non-clinical customer inquiries, such as general prescription status or financial questions.
  • Handle inbound and outbound calls to schedule medication deliveries and payments, ensuring accurate information is captured in patient profiles so distribution can send packages in a timely manner.
  • Respond directly to customer inquiries when appropriate and route calls to the appropriate staff to ensure prompt resolution and high customer satisfaction.
  • Update concise and accurate progress notes in the management information system so other team members can quickly assess the status of referrals.
  • Provide customer service by using the management information system to answer questions about refill needs, pending or shipped prescription status, insurance verification, and invoice requests.
  • Answer patient questions and concerns during refill scheduling and transfer calls to the clinical team, including pharmacists and nurses, when clinical input is required.
  • Identify and report adverse events and product complaints to clinicians in accordance with established procedures to support patient safety.
  • Perform data entry related to prescriptions, insurance information, and customer interactions to maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Utilize Microsoft applications and other systems to document interactions, track prescription status, and support operational workflows.
  • Apply knowledge of insurance, medical claims, and prior authorization processes when assisting patients and clinicians with coverage-related inquiries.
  • Demonstrate professional telephone etiquette and empathetic communication in all interactions with patients, clinicians, and clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may vary slightly depending on specific team or program requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of North Carolina.
  • Pharmacy technician certification and registration and/or prior pharmacy experience.
  • Experience in customer service, preferably in a healthcare or pharmacy setting.
  • Ability to work in a call center environment handling inbound and outbound calls.
  • Proficiency with management information systems used in pharmacy or healthcare operations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including basic computer and software skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy when speaking with patients and caregivers.
  • Professional telephone manner with clear, courteous, and confident communication.
  • Strong attention to detail when documenting information and updating patient profiles.
  • Ability to handle insurance-related inquiries, including verification and basic claims questions.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Customer service experience in a medical office or healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Retail pharmacy experience.
  • Experience with prior authorization processes.
  • Pharmacy experience in any setting is a plus, but not strictly required.
  • Medical claims experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Data entry experience, particularly in healthcare or insurance contexts.
  • Familiarity with insurance processes and coverage verification.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with pharmacists, nurses, and other clinical staff.
  • Organized and enthusiastic approach to work with a focus on delivering high-quality service.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position based in Cary, NC, USA. Training is conducted fully onsite, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time. After training is completed, the permanent schedule runs Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The hybrid arrangement typically includes two days in the office and three days working remotely each week. The role operates in a call center-style environment that is closely integrated with pharmacy operations, using management information systems, Microsoft applications, and other pharmacy and insurance-related technologies. The setting is professional and patient-focused, with frequent phone interaction and collaboration with clinical and operational teams. Dress code in the office is professional and appropriate for a healthcare-related business environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Cary, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
