Job Description
Job Description
Description:

Aspis strives to make enterprise cybersecurity solutions and professional services accessible to organizations of all sizes, from small and medium-sized businesses to large enterprises, nonprofits, and municipal, state, and federal government agencies. Aspis is a HUBZone-certified small business. Our values are Integrity, Community, and Diversity. https://aspis.consulting

Aspis is a Kansas City-based cybersecurity and IT professional services firm, and we are hiring our first team member in the U.S. Virgin Islands. You will work from home, on the island, on a schedule you help set, helping our business development team find and win new work with government agencies and commercial clients.

This is a real job with a real career path, not a temporary gig. It is also only 12 hours a week — which makes it a strong fit if you already have a full-time job and want steady additional income, or if you are a full-time student at UVI or elsewhere and need work that bends around your class schedule. Mornings, afternoons, evenings, or a few hours spread across the week: we care that the work gets done well, not that you are at a desk between nine and five.

You do not need business development experience. You do not need government contracting experience. If you are organized, careful with details, and can write a clear paragraph, we will teach you the rest, an assigned mentor, and hands-on work reviewed by people who want you to get better at it.

Why the Virgin Islands: Aspis is a certified HUBZone small business under the U.S. Small Business Administration's Historically Underutilized Business Zone program. The entire territory of the U.S. Virgin Islands is a qualified HUBZone. We are investing here on purpose, and we intend to keep growing here.

Residency requirement please read before applying: This position is designated to support our HUBZone certification. As a condition of employment, you must reside in the U.S. Virgin Islands at the time of hire and maintain continuous residency in the U.S. Virgin Islands for as long as you hold this position. You will be asked to provide documentation of residency, such as a Virgin Islands driver's license or non-driver identification card. Residency in the U.S. Virgin Islands is a bona fide requirement of this position under 13 C.F.R. § 126.200 and is applied to every applicant for the position alike, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, citizenship status, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal or Virgin Islands law. Applicants residing anywhere in the territory are welcome; we have a preference for candidates on St. Thomas because of proximity to our supported workspace and partner network, but St. Croix, St. John, and Water Island residents are encouraged to apply.

Working from home, and what happens when the power goes: This is a work-from-home position. We provide the laptop and software; you provide a quiet place to work and reliable internet. When a power or internet outage makes working from home impossible, Aspis will reimburse hourly hot-desk passes at SEAT Caribbean in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, or at Accelerate VI Coworking in Christiansted, St. Croix, with prior approval. You should not have to lose hours or pay because the grid did.

This position is remote to our Kansas City office. It is not remote to the territory: you must live in and work from the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Responsibilities:

The Business Development Assistant supports the growth of the company across commercial, small business, and government markets. Work is assigned based on the current pipeline and the employee's developing skills. At Level I, tasks are assigned with clear instructions and reviewed before use; independence increases with experience.

Market and Opportunity Research

• Search federal, state, territorial, and local solicitation portals — including SAM.gov, GSA eBuy, and summarize relevant opportunities for the business development team.

• Build short profiles of target agencies, prime contractors, and commercial prospects, including mission, incumbents, contract history, and points of contact.

• Research competitors, teaming candidates, and market trends in cybersecurity and IT professional services, and prepare concise written summaries.

• Maintain the opportunity pipeline tracker and prepare pipeline reports for business development reviews.

• Flag approaching deadlines, missing data, and stalled opportunities to the team.

• Help maintain contact lists, partner records, and teaming agreement status.

Proposal and Capture Support

• Assist with proposal logistics, including compliance matrices, outlines, section assignments, and production schedules.

• Gather and format past performance write-ups, resumes, corporate data, and certifications for inclusion in proposals.

• Proofread and format proposal sections for consistency, compliance with solicitation instructions, and adherence to page and font limits.

• Prepare materials for review sessions and capture comments and action items.

Marketing and Outreach Support

• Draft and schedule social media, blog, and newsletter content in coordination with marketing and leadership.

• Help prepare capability statements, one-pagers, slide decks, and event materials.

• Support registration, logistics, and follow-up for industry days, conferences, and agency outreach.

• Assist with lead follow-up and outreach sequences under the direction of the business development team.

Training and Development

• Complete a structured onboarding curriculum covering the company, its markets, the basics of federal and territorial government contracting, and the business development lifecycle.

• Complete required company training, including annual security awareness and cybersecurity training.

• Attend pipeline reviews and selected client or partner meetings as an observer.

• Meet regularly with an assigned supervisor and mentor and set development goals.

Administrative and Professional Duties

• Take notes and capture action items in meetings and distribute them to attendees.

• Maintain organized, well-named files in company document repositories.

• Handle company, client, and partner information with discretion and in accordance with company policy and cybersecurity requirements.

• Track and accurately log hours worked and perform other duties as assigned.
