Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with law enforcement officers in the field to conduct psychiatric evaluations, determining the necessity for involuntary detainment (5150/5585 applications), ensuring that decisions comply with legal standards and ethical considerations.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive, confidential records of patient evaluations, treatment plans, and follow-up care in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Accompany law enforcement during mental health emergency responses, providing expertise and support to ensure incidents are handled with sensitivity and efficiency.
  • Engage in effective communication with law enforcement personnel, Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) staff, hospital teams, and consulting psychiatrists to develop coordinated care plans and seamless patient transitions.
  • Educate and train law enforcement personnel on best practices for interacting with individuals experiencing mental health crises, emphasizing de-escalation techniques to minimize the need for force.
  • Deliver short-term crisis counseling to patients experiencing non-violent mental health episodes, helping them regain stability and access further resources for recovery.
Patient Population / Client Focus

This position primarily involves working with individuals in crisis situations, including arrestees facing mental health challenges. As a counselor, you will be in a position to make a significant impact by providing immediate support and guiding clients towards suitable mental health services, including homelessness prevention efforts and assisting with transportation to treatment facilities.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • Valid and active Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) certification.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently.
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining high ethical standards in documentation and patient interactions.
  • Superlative interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with diverse stakeholders.
  • An ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations, demonstrating resilience and empathy.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience in a clinical or psychiatric setting.
  • Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques and strategies.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
