What's the job all about?
The Credit Specialist role at Chandler Asset Management is responsible for conducting in-depth credit analysis on fixed income securities and monitoring credit quality. This role involves conducting in-depth credit research, monitoring market and issuer developments, and providing investment recommendations to support portfolio management decisions under the guidance of more experienced investment professionals.
The essential functions of the role include, but are not limited to the following:
Credit Research & Analysis
- Produce written fundamental credit analysis on issuers across various sectors, predominately in the corporate sector and may include the securitized and municipal sectors on an ad hoc basis.
- Assess financial statements, cash flow projections, debt structures, and industry risks to determine creditworthiness.
- Maintain and assist in developing credit models to track key financial metrics and risk indicators.
- Actively participate in the Credit Committee. Ability to produce concise, well supported credit reports and effectively present investment recommendations, issuer reviews, and credit updates to the Credit Committee and Investment Team.
- Actively engage and meet with company management of issuers on Chandler's coverage universe list.
Credit Monitoring & Risk Assessment
- Continuously monitor credit ratings, financial performance, and macroeconomic factors that could impact investment holdings.
- Track rating agency actions and market conditions to identify potential risks or opportunities.
- Prepare reports summarizing issuer updates, market trends, and risk assessments for the investment team.
Investment Strategy Support
- Collaborate with portfolio managers and traders to provide insights on credit trends and market movements.
- Assist in constructing credit-related investment strategies aligned with client objectives and risk tolerance.
- Contribute to investment committee discussions and present findings on credit markets and specific issuers.
- Compliance & Regulatory Oversight.
- Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, regulatory requirements, and investment guidelines.
- Support due diligence efforts for new issuers, counterparties, and investment vehicles.
- Work with internal teams to maintain compliance documentation and risk management processes.
Perform other duties as assigned.
This Team Member will have:
Education: A bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field required, progress towards the CFA designation preferred, with a demonstrated commitment to professional development in investments and fixed income markets.
Industry Experience: 2-4 years of experience in the asset management industry preferred or 1+ year with demonstrable fixed income analytical experience.
Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Excel, database management, and Bloomberg.
Skills & Knowledge: A solid understanding of financial markets, the asset management business, and its processes.
Market Understanding: Demonstrated understanding of credit fundamentals and fixed income markets, with the ability to evaluate the creditworthiness of issuers across varying economic environment.
Communication Skills: The ability to collaborate efficiently in team settings and work cross-departmentally is necessary.
Additional Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing market conditions and regulatory environments. Strong analytical skills to evaluate investment opportunities and market risks.
