Role Description

We're seeking a hands-on Controller / CFO to lead the financial operations of a growing HVAC and mechanical contracting company. This is more than an accounting role—you'll partner directly with ownership to improve cash flow, profitability, financial reporting, and operational performance across three business units:

  • Plan & Spec / Design-Build Mechanical Construction
  • Commercial & Residential Service & Maintenance
  • Commercial & Residential Project Sales

You'll oversee construction accounting, WIP, AIA billing, job costing, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting while building scalable processes and helping department leaders make better business decisions.

The ideal candidate has experience in construction finance, job costing, and cash flow management. HVAC or mechanical contracting experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Financial Statements and Finance, with the ability to interpret results and support decision-making.
  • Proficiency in Journal Entries (Accounting) and general ledger management, including reconciliations and month-end close.
  • Experience managing Fixed Assets, including tracking, depreciation, and related reporting.
  • Well-developed Analytical Skills to identify variances, trends, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certification (such as CPA) is a plus.
  • Experience in an accounting leadership or supervisory role, preferably in a small to mid-sized business environment.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Excel; familiarity with ERP systems is beneficial.
