Job Description
Job Description
Environmental Engineer (VA P.E.) - Own high-impact SPCC & tank compliance work

Washington, DC Metro

Lead the plans that keep oil out of waterways and clients out of trouble

You’re the Virginia P.E. who doesn’t just “review” SPCC plans – you prepare them, sign them, and stand behind them. This role gives you the platform to own that responsibility across diverse facilities in the DC Metro region.

You’ll be the go-to authority for Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure Plans, Oil Discharge Contingency Plans, and UST/AST regulatory compliance – from field inspections through sealed deliverables.

Your stamp will directly protect the environment and shape how clients manage risk and comply with 40 CFR Part 112 and related regulations.

If you’re a mid- to senior-level engineer who actively signs and seals SPCC plans and wants more impact and autonomy, we want to talk to you.

What You'll Work On

You’ll lead mission-critical environmental compliance work across oil storage, tanks, stormwater, and spill risk.

  • SPCC Plans and 40 CFR Part 112 compliance
  • Oil Discharge Contingency Plans (ODCPs)
  • UST and AST design, inspection, and operations compliance
  • Secondary containment and oil transfer systems
  • Stormwater best management practice (BMP) certifications
  • Spill risk assessments and mitigation strategies
  • Regulatory interface with EPA, VA, MD, and DC agencies
  • Environmental audits, inspections, and reporting

Your core challenge: own the technical details and the P.E. seal that keeps facilities compliant and resilient.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Leading preparation and certification of SPCC Plans in accordance with 40 CFR Part 112
  • Signing and sealing SPCC Plans as the responsible Virginia Professional Engineer
  • Developing and maintaining Oil Discharge Contingency Plans (ODCPs)
  • Evaluating UST and AST systems for design, inspection, and operational compliance
  • Conducting facility inspections and spill risk assessments
  • Reviewing secondary containment, oil storage, and transfer operations for adequacy
  • Providing technical guidance on spill prevention and regulatory compliance to clients
  • Interfacing with EPA, Virginia, Maryland, and DC regulators on compliance matters
  • Supporting audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting
  • Inspecting and certifying stormwater BMPs as needed
  • Independently managing projects from planning through implementation
  • Producing clear, defensible technical reports and documentation
What We're Looking For
  • Active Virginia Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (required)
  • Hands-on experience preparing AND signing SPCC Plans
  • Experience developing ODCPs and storage tank compliance programs
  • Strong knowledge of UST and AST regulations, inspections, and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of stormwater BMPs and related certification processes
  • Proven ability to independently manage projects from concept through implementation
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication abilities
  • Experience in environmental consultancy and due diligence (preferred)
  • Familiarity with EPA, VA, MD, and DC environmental agencies and programs (preferred)
The Experience That Will Really Get Our Attention

You’re the person clients call when they have a complex tank farm, aging containment, or mixed regulatory exposure and need someone who can walk the site, interpret the rules, and deliver a signed plan that stands up to scrutiny.

You’ve managed SPCC and ODCP work independently, know your way around UST/AST programs, and can speak confidently with regulators while keeping projects moving and clients calm.

SPCC Plans • 40 CFR Part 112 • Oil Discharge Contingency Plans • UST compliance • AST compliance • Stormwater BMP certification • Environmental due diligence • EPA regulations • Virginia DEQ • Maryland and DC environmental programs

Why This Opportunity?

Step into a role where your Virginia P.E. license is central – you’re not just reviewing someone else’s work, you’re the one certifying it.

Join an environmental consultancy offering clear paths for both technical depth and leadership growth, backed by competitive compensation, medical benefits, and a 401(k) with employer contributions.

Work in a hybrid environment with diverse projects across the DC Metro region, keeping your days varied and your experience growing.

Important Requirements

Active Virginia Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required.

Must have direct experience preparing AND signing SPCC Plans.

Interested?

If you’re ready to put your P.E. stamp on high-impact environmental compliance work across the DC Metro, let’s get you in the conversation.
