Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary The Repair Station Engineer provides technical expertise, engineering support, and oversight for maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities on aviation articles. This role ensures all work complies with FAA regulations, manufacturer manuals, and the repair station's approved procedures. The engineer troubleshoots complex issues, develops/approves repair processes, supports quality assurance, and may serve as a key liaison for technical and regulatory matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed inspections, testing, troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, overhaul, and modification of aircraft components, systems (e.g., hydraulic, pneumatic, engines), and assemblies in accordance with FAA-approved data, OEM manuals, and repair station procedures.
• Develop, evaluate, and implement engineering solutions, repair schemes, and alterations for non-standard repairs or damage, ensuring compliance with airworthiness standards.
• Approve or recommend return-to-service decisions for repaired/overhauled articles, in coordination with certificated personnel (e.g., A&P mechanics with Inspection Authorization where applicable).
• Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to 14 CFR Part 145, Part 43, and the repair station's Repair Station Manual (RSM), Quality Control Manual (QCM), and Operations Specifications.
• Conduct root cause analysis for discrepancies, failures, or quality escapes; recommend corrective actions and process improvements.
• Support FAA audits, customer audits, and internal quality audits; prepare technical documentation, reports, and records.
• Collaborate with mechanics, inspectors, quality assurance, and management to resolve technical challenges and maintain production schedules.
• Maintain currency with FAA regulations, advisory circulars, service bulletins, and industry best practices.
• Assist in training and mentoring technicians on technical procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, efficiency, and compliance.

QualificationsRequired:

• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering data.
• Solidworks Minimum of 1 year of experiance
• Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work under strict safety and regulatory standards.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written) for technical reporting and team coordination.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain any required security clearances or badging.

Preferred:

• 3–5+ years of experience in aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), preferably in an FAA Part 145 repair station environment.
• FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic certificate or Repairman certificate.
• Experience with FAA audits, quality systems, or serving as a technical representative/contact.
• Familiarity with reverse engineering, DER (Designated Engineering Representative) repairs, or STCs (Supplemental Type Certificates).
• Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and related training (per 49 CFR).
• Experience with specific aircraft types/components relevant to the repair station's ratings (e.g., airframe, powerplant, accessories).
• Strong knowledge of FAA regulations (14 CFR Parts 43, 65, 145), aircraft maintenance manuals, structural repair manuals, and component maintenance manuals.
• Experience with troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of aircraft systems/components (airframe, powerplant, composites, etc.).
