Accounting Technician

Ventura County Transportation Commission, California Accounting Technician Join Our Dynamic Team! Full Time Temporary to Permanent Note - This position will become a permanent full-time position Ventura County Transportation Commission is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounting Technician to join its Finance team. This full-time, temporary-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for a candidate who enjoys accurate financial work, organized recordkeeping, and supporting essential public transportation operations in Ventura County.

The Accounting Technician plays an important role in supporting VCTC's Finance team through accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, reconciliations, journal entries, report preparation, document scanning, and organized financial recordkeeping. This position reports to the Finance Director and works closely with the Accounting Manager and Senior Accountants.

Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice review, coding, data entry, collections support, and payment documentation. Assist with transit-related reconciliations, bus pass sales and disbursements, monthly and annual reporting, and related spreadsheet tracking. Help process payroll for staff and Commissioners, including reviewing timesheets, verifying information, preparing payroll reports, and maintaining records. Prepare, scan, copy, organize, and file financial documentation for billing, audits, reporting, and annual records management. Assist with financial reports, journal entries, budget preparation, ACFR support, lease adjustments, and audit documentation.

The ideal candidate is organized, accurate, and comfortable working independently within established procedures. They bring strong attention to detail, sound math skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while meeting deadlines and supporting a collaborative finance team.

Any combination of education/experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities listed below is qualifying. The ideal candidate shall possess a minimum of three (3) to four (4) years performing similar functions and have an understanding of accounting theory. An associate/ bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field from an accredited college or university is preferred. A combination of accounting college level coursework and related work experience will be considered.
