We are seeking an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to join our inpatient Complex Care Service (CCS). This esteemed service is part of Pediatric Hospital Medicine within the Division of General Pediatrics, dedicated to caring for hospitalized children facing medical complexities, chronic conditions, and functional limitations.

Typical admissions to CCS involve cases such as infections (e.g., aspiration pneumonia, pyelonephritis), exacerbations of chronic conditions (like epilepsy and digestive dysmotility), and recovery from surgeries (including baclofen pump placements, gastrostomies, and spinal fusions). In this role, the APRN will conduct patient evaluations, assessments, and facilitate care for those under the CCS service. The position also involves implementing tailored interventions aimed at enhancing patient care systems and safety for this unique population.

The CCS APRN will collaborate closely with supervising physicians, pediatric trainees (residents and fellows), and the nursing team to ensure the highest standard of clinical care. Additionally, this role will serve as a clinical resource, providing educational opportunities for staff. The environment is dynamic and collaborative, offering numerous learning opportunities. A master’s degree in Nursing is required, and prior clinical experience with medically complex children is preferred.

• Evaluate, assess, and facilitate care for both medical and surgical patients with complexities admitted to the Complex Care Service.
• Assist in implementing interventions to enhance care systems and improve patient safety.
• Work in collaboration with supervising physicians and the nursing/medical team to ensure optimal patient care.
• Serve as a clinical resource and promote educational opportunities for staff.
• Engage in learning, quality improvement, and/or research initiatives.

The position requires 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 4 shifts per 6-week block, including at least one ‘off shift’ (weekend, night, or holiday).

• Master of Science in Nursing

• A minimum of 1 year of pediatric Nurse Practitioner experience is preferred.
• Experience with children facing medical complexities is preferred.
• New graduate Nurse Practitioners may be considered if they have 2+ years of recent pediatric inpatient RN experience and/or strong clinical rotations in pediatric inpatient settings.

• A current Massachusetts NP license with Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) certification.
