Our organization is in search of an Executive Medical Director (EMD) for the Adult Services at our Psychiatric Hospital and the Psychiatry department at our University Hospital. The EMD will oversee the clinical responsibilities of all general, addiction, and geriatric psychiatrists, as well as psychiatric nurse practitioners at both facilities.

• Collaborate with the Vice President (VP) and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to establish and guide clinical practice standards for adult patients at the Psychiatric Hospital. Share responsibility for achieving annual objectives alongside the VP and CNO.

• Oversee the clinical activities of physicians and nurse practitioners in partnership with the Executive Medical Director of Ambulatory Services. Develop and manage the call schedule for Adult Services.

• Provide executive management for three clinical services through direct reports: a) Medical Director of Hospital Psychiatry, b) Medical Director of Neuromodulation Services, c) Clinical Director of Psychiatric Assessment Service.

• Participate in the Leadership Council of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences to guide clinical services.

• Conduct daily team meetings (Monday to Friday) to oversee admissions, discharges, and patient census at the Psychiatric Hospital. Collaborate with the Access Center, operations team, and clinicians to ensure prompt patient access.

• Engage in initiatives aimed at enhancing employee and clinician retention and satisfaction.

• Work alongside administrative and nursing leaders to implement quality and process improvement initiatives (e.g., minimizing harm events, reducing readmissions, participating in Serious Safety Event analyses).

• Strategize and manage the growth of your service line across the designated geographic area.

• Effort distribution: 40% administrative duties; the remaining 60% focused on clinical care and, if applicable, academic activities.

• On-call hours: 5 PM to 8 AM on weekdays and 24-hour weekend paid home call, shared among all adult psychiatrists.

• Typical patient load during inpatient service: Approximately 10 patients daily.

• MD or DO degree, board certified in general, addiction, or geriatric psychiatry.

• Possession of a Tennessee medical license (or eligibility for one).

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in inpatient psychiatry.

• A strong dedication to clinical excellence and teamwork.

• Leadership experience in an academic medical center is preferred.
