Mechanical Engineer I

Halogen Systems is growing, and we’re looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer I to help take products and projects from concept through production. We design and manufacture advanced water quality monitoring technology, including chlorine analyzers and multi-parameter sensors used in drinking water, hot water, industrial, and remote monitoring applications. Our products help customers monitor water quality more efficiently through low-maintenance, reagent-free technology.

This is a great opportunity for an early-career engineer who likes being close to the product and involved throughout the design process. We’re looking for someone who is curious, practical, learns quickly, and is comfortable moving between design, prototyping, testing, documentation, production support, and sourcing challenges as priorities change.

Responsibilities:

In this role, you’ll work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, R&D, and suppliers to design, prototype, test, document, and support products through production. You’ll spend your time:

• Creating and improving parts and assemblies in SolidWorks across manufacturing processes including CNC machining, metal fabrication, extrusion, injection molding, sheet metal, and welding
• Operating, post-processing, and maintaining FDM and SLA 3D printing systems for prototyping and development work
• Taking projects from concept through design, prototyping, testing, validation, and production support
• Creating, interpreting, and managing engineering drawings and BOMs while applying GD&T, tolerance analysis, and DFM feedback
• Writing and executing test plans and documenting results, findings, and recommended next steps
• Developing clear work instructions, manufacturing process instructions (MPIs), inspection procedures, travelers, SOPs, and other technical documentation
• Supporting new product introductions, first article inspections, PPAP, fixtures, tooling, and production readiness
• Working through supply chain and sourcing challenges with vendors and internal teams while supporting ECR/ECO activity, root cause analysis, CAPA, and revision control

Requirements:

A strong fit for this role will likely have 1–3 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience. We’re also open to recent graduates who have completed relevant internships or co-ops and can demonstrate hands-on exposure to the skills below. You do not need to check every box, but you should be someone who learns quickly, takes initiative, and enjoys turning ideas into practical solutions.

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field
• Strong SolidWorks skills and the ability to create, interpret, and work from engineering drawings
• Hands-on exposure to FDM and/or SLA 3D printing technologies
• Experience or practical exposure designing for multiple manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, metal fabrication, extrusion, injection molding, or sheet metal
• Working knowledge of GD&T and strong technical documentation skills, including work instructions, MPIs, inspection procedures, BOMs, test plans, or test reports
• The ability to own work from concept through prototype, testing, and production support and follow through on deliverables
• The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, adapt in a fast-paced environment, solve problems practically, and ask questions or seek guidance when needed

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting NPI, first article inspection, PPAP, or production readiness activities
• Experience working through sourcing, supplier, or supply chain challenges in an engineering environment
• Exposure to FEA, DFM, tolerance analysis, ECR/ECO processes, root cause analysis, or CAPA
• Experience with sensors, instrumentation, electro-mechanical products, or a smaller growing company where engineers wear multiple hats

Additional Details

This role is based on-site at Halogen Systems’ facility in Reno, Nevada. The salary range for this position is $70,000–$75,000. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. At this time, Halogen is not offering sponsorship or relocation assistance.
