Overview

In this role you lead Utility Finance & Rates engagements from wining new work to delivery, guiding multidisciplinary teams to deliver insightful financial and regulatory analyses for utilities. You'll manage scope, schedule, and client relationships while growing the practice and mentoring junior staff. The role blends project leadership with business development to expand 1898 & Co.'s presence in the utility finance space. You'll work closely with executives to shape financial planning, rate design, and regulatory strategy, delivering practical outcomes for clients.

Responsibilities
  • Cultivate client relationships through project delivery and ongoing communication
  • Identify and pursue new consulting opportunities in utility finance, rates, regulatory support, and long-term financial planning
  • Lead proposal development including scoping, budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning
  • Develop project approaches aligned with client objectives and regulatory requirements
  • Support contract development, negotiations, and project initiation
  • Represent 1898 & Co. at client meetings and industry events
  • Manage full lifecycle of utility finance and rates projects (scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk)
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams delivering financial analyses, rate studies, forecasting, and regulatory engagements
  • Ensure timely, on-budget deliverables meeting client expectations and quality standards
  • Monitor project financial performance and proactively manage scope and staffing
  • Coordinate resources across projects and communicate staffing needs to leadership
  • Communicate project status, issues, risks, and recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Oversee QA/QC, documentation, and reporting for technical accuracy
Key requirements
  • 5-10 years of experience leading financial, regulatory, utility, energy, infrastructure, or related consulting engagements
  • Experience managing project scope, budget, schedule, client expectations, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong financial modeling, forecasting, business case development, and quantitative analysis
  • Knowledge of utility finance, revenue requirements, cost-of-service, rate design, regulatory proceedings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling tools
  • Proficiency in data analysis, automation, and modeling using Python, R, SQL, and JavaScript
  • Strong client relationship, communication, and presentation skills to executive audiences
  • Experience developing proposals, scopes of work, and project approaches for growth initiatives
  • Experience leading technical consulting engagements in heavy industrial sectors (power, oil, gas, chemical)
  • Experience with regulatory filings, testimony support, and regulatory data requests
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, computer science or related field and 5 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and procedures
