Associate Vice President for Business and Finance and Controller

In this role you will serve as the chief accounting officer, shaping financial stewardship and operational excellence for the College. You will lead accounting, reporting, internal controls, and payroll within the Division of Business & Finance, partnering with senior leadership to support the College's mission. The role combines deep technical accounting with transformational leadership and a service mindset to drive compliance, efficiency, and continuous improvement. You'll impact financial strategy and governance across grants, endowments, and core financial systems, including ERP and analytics. This is a high-impact position for a seasoned financial leader in higher education.

• Provide strategic leadership for accounting and financial reporting operations.
• Advise CFO and senior leadership on accounting matters and regulatory changes.
• Lead implementation of accounting and financial management best practices in higher education.
• Direct general accounting, GL, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close.
• Ensure GAAP-compliant financial statements and accurate reporting.
• Oversee endowments, investments, assets, debt, grants, and complex transactions.
• Design and maintain internal controls and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate audits and external reporting with auditors.
• Oversee grants and restricted funds accounting.
• Lead accounts payable and payroll operations with strong controls.
• Oversee Banner Finance ERP and related financial technologies.
• Drive process improvement and organizational change initiatives.
• Develop and mentor accounting staff and manage team performance.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA strongly preferred; or substantial controller-level experience in higher education/nonprofit
• MBA preferred
• Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive accounting/financial management experience
• Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience in accounting/financial functions
• Experience in higher education or nonprofit environments preferred
• Demonstrated success in organizational change, team development and process improvement
• Ability to work after hours or weekends as needed
