Critical Care Nocturnist Position

Role Overview:

We are seeking a qualified Nocturnist Intensivist to join our team. Ideal candidates should have a background in Internal Medicine/Critical Care, Pulmonary/Critical Care, Anesthesia/Critical Care, or Emergency Medicine/Critical Care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide nighttime supervision for patients in a 20-bed Medical/Surgical ICU and a 10-bed Cardiac ICU.
  • Currently, our open ICU model allows admissions by the intensivist team, hospitalists, family medicine residents, and surgical staff. However, we will transition to a closed model where the nighttime intensivist will manage triaging and admissions.
  • Oversee the Family Medicine Residency Program, which acts as the Rapid Response and Code Team for all hospital floors during night shifts.
  • Typical night shifts run from 7 PM to 7 AM, focusing on admissions and ongoing care for a combined 30-bed CICU/ICU.

About Our Hospital:

Our organization is a 358-bed county-owned non-profit community hospital serving a 7-county area in the upstate Lakelands region of South Carolina. We feature 30 critical care beds in our ICU/CICU and a 32-bed step-down unit. Our service area encompasses a growing population of 250,000 to 300,000, located just an hour south of the Greenville metropolitan area. We maintain close affiliations with nearby medical centers.

Required Skills and Certifications:

  • ACLS certification is mandatory.
  • Experience with central lines, arterial lines, intubation, and mechanical ventilator management is essential.
  • Bronchoscopy skills are encouraged.

Technology:

We utilize Epic for electronic medical records, along with Dragon dictation and DAX (AI Dictation)/Insights for documentation.

Team Structure:

The current group consists of 4 Pulmonary/Critical Care physicians who provide daytime coverage for the ICU, while nighttime coverage is managed by the hospitalist service.
