Position Overview:

Medical Director, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Flagstaff, Arizona

We are seeking a Medical Director for our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Inpatient Pediatric Unit located in Flagstaff, AZ. Currently, our team includes two seasoned pediatric intensivists, with additional support from per diem intensivists. We are looking to add a third experienced intensivist who will take on the role of medical director.

Position Requirements
  • Must be Board Certified (not board eligible) in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.

  • A minimum of 5 years of attending-level experience (post-fellowship) is required, preferably in a large, busy PICU.

  • Proven leadership skills and experience, ready to assume the responsibilities of medical director.

  • The successful candidate will need to relocate to Flagstaff.

Staffing Model
  • Three Pediatric Intensivists will share coverage, with full-time responsibilities of 10 days per month and on-call duties from home.

  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioners with PICU training and experience will be available 24/7 to take first call for all patients.

The Unit
  • A 14-bed unit that combines PICU and pediatric floor services, featuring all private rooms that are PICU-capable.

  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioners will primarily handle documentation and orders.

  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Intensivists will collaboratively care for all patients in both the PICU and the floor.

  • Our team includes an excellent, experienced nursing staff, respiratory therapists, and various therapists (physical, speech, and occupational).

  • We serve a diverse and extensive catchment area, being the only PICU in northern Arizona, which includes the Grand Canyon, Navajo Nation, and the Arizona mountain region.

  • Designated as a Level 1 Trauma center.

  • Active surgical services are available, including neurosurgery, ENT, general surgery, orthopedics, and trauma.

  • All ventilator modalities are utilized (e.g., HFOV), but we do not perform ECMO or cardiac surgeries.

  • We also offer an outpatient procedural sedation service.

The Medical Center
  • Our facility is a 270-bed regional medical center known for its high-quality care and specialty services, as well as being a Level 1 Trauma Center.

  • We have an 18-bed NICU staffed by neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners.

  • Our active birthing center is a key component of our services.

  • We are financially stable and expanding, with a strong commitment to pediatrics and the PICU.
