Work EnvironmentThe role of a Licensed Mental Health Counselor at Function First Therapy Center is entirely remote, allowing for flexibility in your work-life balance while ensuring you can provide care where it is needed most. Key Responsibilities- Conduct initial mental health evaluations through virtual consultations, thoroughly documenting all cases from the first meeting to treatment completion.
- Assess the mental, behavioral, and emotional health needs of clients, using standardized diagnostic tools and personal interviews.
- Develop tailored intervention and recovery plans for individual clients, couples, families, and groups based on their unique circumstances and needs.
- Facilitate effective individual and group therapy sessions, utilizing evidence-based practices and therapeutic techniques.
- Monitor and document client progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to ensure the best outcomes.
- Collaborate with other professionals, including doctors, psychiatrists, and social workers, to create comprehensive care strategies.
- Maintain ongoing communication with clients’ psychiatrists for those who require medication management and hospital care follow-ups.
- Proactively identify treatment barriers and develop strategies to mitigate impediments to recovery.
- Provide guidance to family members and primary caregivers on how to support clients through mental health challenges.
You will specialize in working with a diverse range of clients, including children, adolescents, adults, and families facing various psychological issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, and relationship challenges. Understanding the unique characteristics of the Richmond community will allow you to tailor your approach effectively while being sensitive to cultural and socioeconomic factors that influence mental health.
Qualifications- A Master’s or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
- Current and valid licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMFT, LPC, LCSW) in Virginia.
- A passing score on the National Counselor Examination (NCE) and/or National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE).
- A minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience as a mental health counselor.
- Hands-on proficiency with electronic health record systems, particularly AVATAR.
- Experience in addressing complex emotional and physical health conditions, including addiction disorders.
- Strong familiarity with American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) best practices.
- A comprehensive understanding of medications prescribed within mental health treatment protocols.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills paired with a strong ability to build rapport with clients.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills that underline a compassionate and empathetic approach to therapy.
