Position Overview

The Balanced Being Psychotherapy Center is seeking a dedicated and licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our team in a full-time remote capacity. This role is pivotal in delivering compassionate care to our diverse clientele as they navigate their mental health challenges. As a counselor, you will conduct thorough mental health evaluations, create individualized treatment plans, and facilitate both individual and group therapy sessions aimed at fostering recovery and well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough initial assessments and document treatment progress from the first consultation through to the end of therapy.
  • Evaluate clients' mental, behavioral, and emotional challenges using standardized diagnostic tools and interviews to inform treatment approaches.
  • Develop personalized intervention and recovery plans based on evidence-based practices tailored to individuals, couples, families, and groups.
  • Facilitate engaging individual and group therapy sessions, emphasizing active participation and feedback from clients.
  • Monitor and evaluate treatment progress, adapting plans as necessary to meet clients' evolving needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with other mental health professionals, including social workers, physicians, and case managers, to coordinate comprehensive care.
  • Provide timely follow-ups with psychiatrists and other health professionals regarding clients requiring hospitalization for mental health crises.
  • Identify potential obstacles to recovery, intervening when necessary to support clients and their families through challenging situations.
  • Offer supportive resources and guidance to family members and primary caregivers in managing mental health challenges effectively.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The ideal candidate will work with a varied clientele, including individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related disorders, and relationship challenges. Our patients range from children and adolescents to adults and families, reflecting the diverse fabric of our community. Counselors will need to adapt their therapeutic techniques to meet the unique cultural, social, and economic backgrounds of those they serve, ensuring inclusive and equitable mental health care.

Qualifications

  • A completed Master's or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited educational institution.
  • Current and valid licensure as an LCMFT, LMFT, LCPC, or LCSW-C in the state of Maryland.
  • A passing score on the National Counselor Examination (NCE) and/or the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE).
  • Demonstrated experience as a mental health counselor, showing proficiency in clinical assessment and intervention.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, preferably AVATAR, to maintain organized patient records.
  • A solid background in addressing co-occurring physical and emotional health issues, including addiction disorders.
  • Knowledge of best practices as per the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) and ethical considerations in mental health.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in an accessible manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, exhibiting empathy and a sympathetic approach that builds trust with clients.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working in a community health setting or with underserved populations.
  • Familiarity with various therapeutic modalities, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based interventions.
  • Active engagement in ongoing professional development through workshops, conferences, and continuing education.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for this position ranges from $80,000 to $100,000 annually, with the opportunity for a sign-on bonus to welcome you to our team.
