Overview

In this role, you ensure accurate and timely patient registration and financial interactions in the ED. You will verify insurance, obtain authorizations, and manage billing and collections to support patient care. You collaborate with clinical staff and cross-functional teams to align records and payments, maintaining confidentiality and service excellence. This position offers hands-on experience in patient access workflows within a hospital setting and exposure to behavioral health coordination. You help drive a positive patient experience through clear communication and efficient processes.

Responsibilities
  • Interview patients and families to collect all account information and demographics
  • Perform bedside registration using mobile carts and computers on wheels
  • Verify insurance, obtain pre-certifications/authorizations, and assign insurance plans
  • Calculate and collect patient liable amounts and explain policies per collection procedures
  • Process patient payments, issue receipts, and maintain payment integrity
  • Obtain necessary signatures for treatments, information release, and insurance benefits
  • Scan and organize documents to establish patient medical records and financial files
  • Coordinate with clinical staff on emergency needs and patient transfers
  • Maintain bed assignment timelines and support unit transfers in Behavioral Health Center
  • Review insurance contracts to verify hospital placement and compliance with plans
  • Attend mandatory trainings, meetings, and service excellence initiatives
Key requirements
  • 0 to 3 years of related experience
  • High school diploma (bachelor's preferred)
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to handle stressful situations with professional composure
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize workload and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of healthcare processes, insurance verification, and authorization workflows
