Accounting Manager – Insurance

Oak Brook, IL | Hybrid (3 days onsite)

Growing specialty insurance and risk management organization

A well-established specialty insurance organization is building out its accounting leadership team and seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee a large insurance accounting function. Reporting into senior finance leadership, this position combines people leadership, technical accounting, month-end close ownership, statutory reporting, and process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of supervisors, senior accountants, and staff accountants
  • Own monthly close activities, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting processes
  • Oversee preparation and review of statutory reporting and regulatory filings
  • Manage balance sheet reconciliations and review unusual transactions and account activity
  • Partner with internal stakeholders on accounting projects and business initiatives
  • Support annual audits and quarterly reviews
  • Strengthen internal controls and accounting processes
  • Drive automation and process improvement efforts to increase efficiency
  • Mentor team members and support their professional development
  • Ensure accurate GAAP reporting and regulatory compliance

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related discipline
  • 3+ years property & casualty insurance / reinsurance experience
  • Experience with both GAAP and statutory accounting
  • Demonstrated ownership of month-end close and financial reporting processes
  • Prior management experience leading accounting teams
  • Strong understanding of account reconciliations, financial statements, and internal controls
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with insurance accounting systems and reporting tools
  • Process improvement, automation, or workflow optimization experience
  • Experience supporting audits and regulatory reporting requirements

Compensation

  • Base salary: $120,000-$140,000
  • 10% annual bonus opportunity
