Position Overview

The Senior Accountant is responsible for key accounting operations across the general ledger, month-end close, government billing, revenue recognition, clinical research costs, payroll, and audit support. Reporting to the Controller, this role partners across the organization to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong controls, regulatory compliance, and efficient accounting processes in a fast-paced biotechnology and government contracting environment.

What You Will Do

  • Oversee the general ledger, including journal entries, account reconciliations, cash management, and month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare and record asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries, ensuring transactions are accurate, complete, and recorded on time.
  • Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts and prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Manage government billing, ensuring invoices are accurate, timely, and compliant with contract terms and applicable regulations.
  • Record revenue in accordance with ASC 606 and lease activity in accordance with ASC 842.
  • Use Deltek Costpoint to support project accounting, system accuracy, revenue, and billing processes, while supporting DCAA timekeeping and labor-charging compliance.
  • Track and reconcile CRO invoices against contracts, budgets, and study milestones; prepare clinical trial accruals and supporting schedules for research-related expenses.
  • Process semi-monthly payroll with the payroll provider and support federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors and support government contract and DCAA audits by preparing schedules, analyses, and documentation.
  • Maintain internal controls and audit-ready documentation, review financial results, identify opportunities for cost and process improvements, and create or update accounting and finance SOPs.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive financial and employee information and perform other duties as assigned.

Ideally, you'll have

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA or advanced degree is a plus.
  • 5+ years of progressive technical accounting experience, including experience in a government contracting environment.
  • Experience across general ledger, cash, payroll, revenue recognition, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and U.S. GAAP audits.
  • Strong organizational, time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate financial and accounting issues to all levels of management.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and remain flexible and adaptable as priorities evolve.

You'll excel if you have experience with

  • Deltek Costpoint and government project accounting principles and practices.
  • Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and government contract structures, including CPFF, FFP, and T&M.
  • Government billing, DCAA timekeeping and labor-charging requirements, and government contract audit support.
  • ASC 606 revenue recognition and ASC 842 lease accounting.
  • Clinical research accounting, including CRO invoice reconciliation and clinical trial accruals.
  • Microsoft Excel, Office, Word, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential or equivalent advanced accounting expertise; CPA is a plus.
