Job Description

Software Development Engineer

Boise, Idaho | Onsite

Kokusai Electric is a global technology leader in vertical diffusion furnace systems, enabling advanced semiconductor manufacturing at scale. We partner closely with the world’s most demanding logic and memory fabs, supporting both development and high‑volume manufacturing (HVM) across critical process modules.

If you thrive in high‑volume manufacturing environments, enjoy building technically strong teams, and want to be accountable for process stability, defectivity reduction, and sustained tool performance, this is a rare opportunity.

The Software Development Engineer role sits at the intersection of software engineering, semiconductor equipment and process technology, and business innovation. The engineer will design, develop, deploy, and maintain applications that operate within internal network environments and address complex technical and operational challenges. These applications will enable teams around the world to share information, collaborate more effectively, automate workflows, analyze data, and develop new capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software applications supporting internal business and laboratory operations.
  • Build applications and services that operate securely within internal network environments and integrate with existing enterprise systems and data sources.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, improve workflows, increase productivity, and enable new business capabilities through software.
  • Work directly with semiconductor equipment, process, laboratory, and engineering teams to understand domain-specific challenges and translate them into practical software solutions.
  • Develop tools that leverage engineering data, laboratory results, equipment information, and other internal data sources to generate actionable insights and enable better decision-making.
  • Collaborate with international engineering and software organizations to develop solutions that can be shared, standardized, and proliferated across global operations.
  • Partner with users and subject-matter experts throughout the development lifecycle, from problem definition and prototyping through deployment and continuous improvement.
  • Apply modern software engineering practices including automated testing, version control, code review, CI/CD, documentation, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software design, implementation, testing, debugging, documentation, and analysis while independently validating generated code and results.
  • Establish appropriate testing and validation strategies to ensure AI-assisted and traditionally developed software is reliable, secure, maintainable, and fit for its intended use.
  • Prototype rapidly when exploring new concepts and transition successful prototypes into robust, production-quality applications.
  • Contribute to software architecture, technical standards, development methodologies, and reusable frameworks that enable other teams to build and deploy applications efficiently.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively with both software professionals and non-software domain experts.
  • Take ownership of challenging problems that may not have clearly defined requirements or established solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Professional experience developing software applications using one or more modern programming languages such as Python, C#, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C++.
  • Experience developing applications that interact with databases, APIs, network services, or other enterprise systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including:
  • Object-oriented and/or functional programming
  • Data structures and algorithms
  • Software architecture and design
  • Automated testing
  • Version control
  • Debugging and troubleshooting
  • Secure software development
  • Experience working with software development tools and modern development workflows
  • Ability to understand complex technical problems and translate them into practical software solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with geographically distributed teams.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn unfamiliar technologies, systems, and technical domains.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing software for semiconductor manufacturing, semiconductor equipment, process engineering, laboratory environments, or other advanced technology domains.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor equipment, processes, laboratory workflows, or engineering data.
  • Experience developing applications for internal enterprise networks or controlled computing environments.
  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases and data engineering concepts.
  • Experience developing web-based applications and APIs.
  • Experience with cloud, containerization, distributed systems, or modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience integrating software with laboratory equipment, instrumentation, manufacturing systems, or other physical systems.
  • Experience working in an international or geographically distributed engineering organization.
  • Experience developing reusable software platforms, frameworks, or tools intended for adoption by multiple teams.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as code-generation, coding agents, automated testing, debugging, or AI-based development environments.
  • Understanding of software security, access control, data protection, and application deployment within enterprise environments.
