Role Description The Equipment Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Charlottesville, VA, responsible for overseeing the company’s fleet of construction and paving equipment. On a day-to-day basis, this role plans and coordinates preventive maintenance, schedules repairs, and tracks equipment usage to maximize uptime and extend asset life. The Equipment Manager works closely with field supervisors and mechanics to ensure equipment is available, safe, and properly configured for upcoming projects. Duties include maintaining accurate service records, managing parts and supply inventories, and assisting with equipment inspections and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The role may also support equipment purchasing decisions, vendor relationships, and continuous improvement of maintenance processes.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience managing construction, paving, or heavy equipment fleets, including maintenance planning and scheduling.


• Knowledge of mechanical systems and diagnostics for trucks, asphalt equipment, and related machinery; ability to work effectively with technicians and service providers.


• Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills, including use of spreadsheets or fleet management software for tracking maintenance, inspections, and inventory.


• Ability to collaborate with operations, safety, and project management teams to align equipment availability with job requirements.


• Commitment to workplace safety, compliance with DOT and other applicable regulations, and adherence to company policies.


• Effective communication skills, including clear written and verbal communication with supervisors, vendors, and field personnel.


• Proven ability to prioritize tasks, solve problems independently, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.


• Prior experience in construction, asphalt paving, or a related industry is strongly preferred; supervisory experience is a plus.


• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or certifications in equipment maintenance or fleet management are beneficial.


• Valid driver’s license and ability to work on-site in Charlottesville, VA on a regular basis.
